Role purpose
This position is responsible for planning and running community-focused CSR and rural development programs through the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives & Rural Development, working alongside local communities to support their overall development. The role also includes helping ensure security and maintaining effective coordination with internal teams and outside agencies so terminal operations run smoothly.
Job context and key challenges
EMMRL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Essel Mining & Industries Limited (EMIL), has been selected as the successful bidder for the Bandha Coal Block in Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh, about 37 km from Singrauli city. The project is a greenfield development with a peak rated capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum. The company is currently working through statutory approvals and operational readiness.
The role sits in a setting with several execution challenges, including obtaining statutory clearances, coordinating with authorities to speed up project start-up and stable operations, handling land acquisition and possession, relocating project-affected families, implementing the rehabilitation and resettlement policy, completing the mining lease process, starting production and reaching peak output at a competitive cost, protecting coal quality, maintaining safe operations, adopting modern technology across operations, maintenance and logistics, driving digital initiatives, marketing coal, and ensuring ongoing compliance with legal requirements, including renewals or amendments to approvals, progressive mine closure, and obligations under the terms of the allotment agreement.
Key accountabilities
Land acquisition: Assist in activities related to project land acquisition and related execution support.
Liaison and approvals: Coordinate with government departments for statutory permissions and clearances such as environment clearance, forest clearance, and mining-related approvals, while also engaging with local stakeholders and attending government meetings.
Protocol arrangements: Organize meetings and protocol support for visits by government officials, statutory authorities, and bureaucrats.
Secretarial support: Provide support to the Company Secretary on compliance-related matters.
