About Educate!
Educate! works to expand opportunity for Africa’s young population by creating scalable youth employment solutions. The organization focuses on helping young people build the skills they need to learn, earn, and thrive in today’s economy through two main approaches: introducing an employment-oriented subject in secondary school and running livelihood boot camps for out-of-school youth, especially marginalized rural girls and young women.
So far, Educate! has reached more than 500,000 young people across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The team includes more than 300 staff, mostly African, plus 300 volunteer youth mentors. The organization is known for a strong growth culture, long staff retention among leaders, and a track record of recognition and support from major foundations and global institutions. Its long-term goal is to develop solutions that positively affect millions of youth across Africa every year.
Role Summary
Educate! is hiring a highly organized, people-focused, execution-oriented Program Coordinator to lead delivery of the E!BA Out-of-School Youth Bootcamps across districts in Eastern Uganda. The role sits at the point where planning becomes action, ensuring multiple sites run to standard while supporting and developing Program Officers who manage frontline implementation.
This position is well suited to someone who enjoys people management, coaching frontline leaders, and working in fast-moving environments with a strong focus on youth impact.
Key Responsibilities
The role covers zonal leadership, coordination, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and operational execution. You will oversee Program Officers, help maintain strong performance across delivery sites, monitor implementation quality, and ensure district-level bootcamp delivery stays aligned with Educate!’s standards and goals.
Zonal Team Leadership and Performance
- Directly manage Program Officers within the assigned delivery zone or units.
- Hold regular one-on-one check-ins to discuss priorities, performance, and obstacles.
- Guide Program Officers in planning work, executing activities, and managing their teams.
- Review and sign off on workplans, activity calendars, and reports submitted by Program Officers.
- Provide structured coaching, feedback, and performance support.
- Support onboarding and ongoing development of Program Officers.
- Escalate major performance concerns, safeguarding issues, or operational risks to the Program Manager.
- Set up and reinforce working habits, systems, and routines that drive consistent and high-quality execution across the zone.
- Demonstrate Educate!’s culture in day-to-day leadership through openness, trust, collaboration, and high standards.
- Address team morale, conflict, communication breakdowns, and workload concerns proactively.
Program Coordination and Strategy Execution
- Coordinate district-level roll-out of the E!BA bootcamp across several sites so that delivery teams meet key performance targets.
- Monitor implementation against the schedule and act quickly on delays or risk areas.
- Help Program Officers resolve operational issues at site level.
- Carry out field visits and spot checks to verify quality and identify improvement opportunities.
- Drive compliance with safeguarding policies and ensure all team members are trained on EBA protocols and escalation procedures.
- Lead improvements to participant retention approaches and help define success metrics for tracking bootcamp progress.
- Support trainer management practices that strengthen training quality and surface any risks to the EBA training lead.
- Coordinate zonal strategies that help youth progress through the bootcamp pipeline and prepare to launch businesses.
- Oversee the use of feedback channels to capture input from youth and frontline staff, ensuring issues are resolved and documented.
- Work closely with finance and procurement teams to make sure frontline logistics for bootcamp delivery run smoothly.
Quality Assurance, Monitoring, and Learning
- Lead quality assurance systems across the zone or assigned units.
- Conduct regular monitoring visits to bootcamp sites and collect feedback from youth and stakeholders to identify operational gaps.
- Check and validate reports submitted by Program Officers.
- Use data to spot trends, gaps, and risks, then recommend corrective action.
- Support testing and rollout of delivery and learning experiments.
- Implement the learning agenda for the delivery unit and collaborate with M&E and product teams on iteration opportunities.
- Build a data-driven mindset among Program Officers so they move from task execution to ownership and decision-making.
Partnership and Stakeholder Coordination
- Support Program Officers in managing district- and site-level partnerships.
- Engage government and community stakeholders at district level in coordination with field operations and youth recruitment teams.
- Ensure partner feedback is recorded, followed up, and resolved.
- Represent Educate! in district coordination forums when needed.
- Keep partnership work aligned with program objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in program coordination, implementation, or management.
- Minimum 2 years of experience supervising or managing staff, ideally Program Officers or other frontline leads.
- Strong background in youth-focused, education, or training-oriented programs.
- Proven ability to coordinate several sites or teams at the same time.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building abilities.
- Comfort using reports and data to guide decisions.
- Alignment with Educate!’s five cultural tenets.
Added Advantage
- Prior experience in bootcamp-style or fast-paced implementation settings.
- Exposure to monitoring and evaluation or quality assurance systems.
- Experience working with local government or community stakeholders.
What We Offer
- A lively, mission-led workplace with a supportive and enjoyable team culture.
- Competitive pay based on experience.
- Opportunities for learning and professional growth.
Terms and Conditions
The duty station is Kampala, but the role requires frequent travel across operational districts in Eastern Uganda for bootcamp delivery. The position reports to the Program Manager – E!BA and supervises Program Officers working on the E!BA program.
Recruitment is on a rolling basis, and interviews are expected to begin soon.
Culture and Values
Educate! expects every team member to live out its five core values: putting youth first and staying impact-focused, exceeding expectations, continuously learning, working as one team with many perspectives, and bringing a startup mindset that embraces innovation, change, and speed. Every staff member is assessed against these values, from interns to senior leadership.
The organization also emphasizes inclusion and welcomes applicants from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences. It expects employees to contribute beyond their formal job scope, grow continuously, and help advance the mission.
Child and Youth Safeguarding
All shortlisted candidates will go through child and youth safety screening. A Certificate of Good Conduct is required during the process, and any employment offer may be withdrawn if safeguarding risks are identified.
Who Can Apply
Educate! encourages applications from candidates who are passionate about its mission, including people who may not meet every requirement. Women and candidates from all backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
