Role overview
This opportunity is for an experienced Business Analyst who wants to do more than capture requirements. Based in Wellington, New Zealand, the role offers strategic influence and the chance to help improve how the organisation works. It is suited to someone who can partner with senior leaders, think critically about complex problems, and turn strategy into practical action. The focus is not on traditional delivery work such as user stories or systems specifications; instead, the role centres on shaping decisions, improving processes, and influencing meaningful outcomes.
You will join an established team with solid foundations already in place. The key need is someone who can build on that base, raise performance, improve alignment, and identify better ways of working through stronger business insight and smarter processes. The role spans a broad portfolio and involves working with stakeholders to understand priorities, test ideas, define problems clearly, and support decisions that improve operational effectiveness.
What you'll be doing
- Work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders to understand strategic priorities, emerging challenges, and opportunities to improve.
- Deliver analysis and insight that supports decision-making, clarifies issues, and points to practical next steps.
- Constructively question assumptions, help shape discussions, and keep the focus on outcomes.
- Assess and refine business processes, frameworks, and working practices to improve efficiency, consistency, and impact.
- Convert complex information into clear options, recommendations, and actions that support progress.
- Collaborate across initiatives and business areas to identify links, manage dependencies, and support successful change.
- Develop trusted relationships and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders.
Experience and capabilities
The right person will bring proven experience in business analysis, advisory work, or a similar role within a complex organisation. You should be comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, and able to use facilitation, analysis, and problem-framing skills to support sound decisions.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, along with the confidence to work with and influence senior leaders. You will also need a track record of driving process improvements that lead to real results, plus sound judgement, curiosity, and the ability to work well in ambiguous situations. A strong focus on outcomes is important.
