Role overview

As a Barista at Pret A Manger, you will be part of the shop team responsible for preparing and serving drinks to the brand’s required standards. The position focuses on consistent drink quality, strong product knowledge, speedy and friendly service, and keeping the back counter running smoothly, cleanly, and safely. You will also help train team members, support day-to-day shop needs, and contribute to an upbeat customer experience.

This role is open only to applicants based in the UK, or to individuals who already have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship for visas is not available.

Key duties

• Prepare all barista-made drinks to the company’s standards and ensure customers receive the product they expect.
• Support the training and coaching of Team Member Star Coffee colleagues and baristas in training on drinks, standards, and related processes.
• Work with the Team Member Trainer to make sure training is scheduled and delivered appropriately.
• Lead coffee team briefings and attend relevant meetings, courses, or conferences when needed.
• Keep hot drink training materials current and available.
• Engage customers and teammates positively around the coffee story and menu to create a lively customer experience.
• Help reduce queues by calling out orders and serving drinks in a timely way.
• Use clear and consistent drink calling that is easy for both customers and the team to understand.
• Deliver latte art and other drink presentation standards that enhance the customer experience.
• Model strong coffee knowledge and confidently communicate key information about drinks and standards.
• Maintain milk and coffee quality through tasting, weighing, and regular quality checks.
• Take responsibility for the results of Coffee Confidence visits, the coffee elements of Mystery Shopper checks, and the 3D Review.
• Demonstrate updates to drink standards and new product launches for the team.
• Report any ingredient quality concerns to the manager promptly.
• Help keep the barista area, equipment, box, and daily/weekly checks aligned with standards.
• Inspect the drinks counter from the customer’s perspective and keep it clean throughout the day.
• Complete log checks, thermometer calibration, and dribble tests as required.
• Follow all legal and company health, safety, and food safety requirements.
• Manage waste levels for barista ingredients and address stock variance or waste issues when requested by management.
• Track the weekly sales target, understand drink sales mix, and share this information with the team.
• Ensure enough stock of drink ingredients, packaging, and small equipment is available.
• Use promotional waste appropriately for sampling and for recognising regular customers through Joy of Pret.
• Carry out Team Member Star duties as needed based on business demand.

• Follow the dress code and maintain a polished, immaculate appearance in the correct uniform at all times.
• Work in a way that reflects the brand’s service style and customer-first approach.
• Complete all required training so you understand the standards and safety procedures you must follow.
• Escalate to your manager immediately if you notice any standards or processes are not being met.

Requirements

• Ability to train and coach others on coffee preparation and service standards.
• Good understanding of barista drinks, coffee quality, and product standards.
• Confidence in customer interaction and team communication.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment and help reduce queues.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, food safety, and health and safety practices.
• Willingness to follow company procedures, checks, and quality control routines.
• Right to work in the UK or UK-based eligibility, as visa sponsorship is not offered.
