About the role

As an Advisor, Training, you will join the Learning and Capability team and support the delivery of centrally coordinated technical learning that helps build the organisation’s future workforce. The role focuses on aviation security capability and on helping frontline operational staff apply what they learn back on the job.

You will work closely with frontline managers, on-the-job training staff, and training support team members. A key part of the role is designing, delivering, and managing technical training courses and specialist learning interventions that meet operational requirements.

What you will do

  • Run workshops and training sessions using a range of methods that improve learning transfer before, during, and after training.
  • Deliver basic and refresher courses in line with Aviation Security Officer accreditation requirements.
  • Support delivery of approved training programmes for Pacific Island countries under the AvSec Pacific Project Training Programme when needed.
  • Work with People and Capability to help recruit and train capable Aviation Security Officers.
  • Assess training needs and create learning solutions that address identified gaps.

Location and travel

This is a permanent position based in Wellington. The role requires travel to other locations to support essential training delivery, including facilitating Basic Training Courses at the Auckland and Christchurch AvSec Training Centres and assisting with training at other airport locations as required.

Salary

The salary range for this position is NZD 83,600 to NZD 102,302 per year. Starting pay will depend on the successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay relativities.

What we are looking for

This role is suited to someone with strong facilitation ability, clear communication skills, and the confidence to deliver technical training in a variety of formats. You should be comfortable working with diverse cultures and committed to equal opportunity principles. Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders is also important.

About the employer

The Civil Aviation Authority is New Zealand’s aviation safety and security regulator. It plays an important role in protecting the travelling public, supporting the aviation sector, and maintaining New Zealand’s reputation internationally.

The workplace places strong emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and creating an environment where people feel safe, valued, and able to contribute.

Application information
