Role overview
MAS - Medical Assurance Society is hiring Advice Quality Analysts to strengthen the quality, compliance and consistency of insurance and investment advice delivered to Members. These roles sit within the Distribution team and are based in either Auckland or Wellington.
You will work closely with Advisers, team leaders and governance partners to check advice documents before they are sent to Members, making sure they align with MAS professional standards and Financial Markets Authority (FMA) requirements. In this role, you will also act as a trusted subject matter resource by giving practical feedback and coaching that helps improve advice capability across the business.
The position suits someone who enjoys detailed work, thoughtful analysis and teamwork, and who takes satisfaction in helping others achieve strong outcomes. There is flexibility for the right person, including part-time arrangements, flexi-hours or reduced days such as a 9-day fortnight.
Key duties
- Assess insurance and investment advice documents to confirm they are complete, accurate and aligned with MAS processes, regulatory obligations and ethical standards.
- Give clear and constructive feedback to Advisers, highlighting any gaps, risks or improvements needed before advice is released.
- Partner with Advisers and leaders through coaching-style conversations and practical support to lift capability.
- Approve advice documents once all requirements have been met and the advice is ready for delivery to Members.
- Help manage the AQA workflow by prioritising work and contributing to operational planning.
- Look for ways to improve advice processes, efficiency and day-to-day working methods to enhance both Adviser and Member experience.
- Share trends, observations and insights for reporting and leadership discussions to support informed decision-making.
What the role requires
- At least 7 years of experience in operations, advice quality, governance, compliance or a comparable financial services role, including exposure to plan writing, checking or paraplanning.
- Strong understanding of insurance and/or investment advice, including current best practice, regulatory expectations and high standards of advice quality.
- An NZ Certificate in Financial Services Level 5, or an equivalent qualification, is essential.
- Well-developed analytical and critical thinking ability, with confidence to make balanced decisions and explain the reasoning behind them.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially the ability to offer feedback in a professional and constructive way.
- Ability to establish trusted working relationships with Advisers and colleagues in the Advice Quality team.
- Good organisation and time management skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities in a shared-team environment.
- A growth-oriented mindset, personal accountability and a genuine desire to deliver strong outcomes for Members.
