The position covers various areas including Animal Ambassador, Aviculture, Dolphin, Dynamic Habitats/Aquarium, Sea Lion, and Zoo Support & Rescue. Flexibility is key, as the role requires working across all shifts, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, to maintain continuous high performance. Responsibilities

  • Maintain pristine, safe, and stimulating living environments for all animals, consistently monitoring their health and behavior for any changes.
  • Employ advanced behavioral modification techniques for animal training, developing new behaviors for inexperienced animals with minimal oversight, and independently completing training objectives.
  • Cultivate strong, trusting relationships with animals by establishing and reinforcing conditioned behaviors.
  • Strictly adhere to safety protocols by continuously assessing potential risks to guests and colleagues, and intervening professionally when necessary.
  • Facilitate professional development among colleagues through training sessions as directed by leadership, ensuring compliance with all required professional development courses and competency evaluations.
  • Enhance guest experiences through proactive engagement during pre- and post-show interactive sessions, responding to inquiries, and contributing to educational outreach initiatives.
  • Perform daily health assessments and promptly report any observed anomalies in animal behavior, health, or habitat conditions to the management team.
  • Maintain detailed records of animal health, behavior, and habitat status, ensuring all equipment, workspaces, and communication systems are current and operational.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for SeaWorld by upholding exceptional customer service, promoting collaboration, and demonstrating reliability through consistent, constructive feedback and adaptability.
  • Comply with all company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and operational manuals, practicing safe work habits and ensuring correct use of personal protective equipment.
  • Report any unsafe conditions immediately and undertake any additional duties as assigned to meet departmental and business needs.

Qualifications

Essential

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Open Water SCUBA certification (not applicable for Aviculture roles).
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in animal handling.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Basic mathematical skills and computer literacy, including MS Office and specialized animal record-keeping software.
  • A thorough understanding of aquatic animal (fish, reptile, amphibian, invertebrate) husbandry, nutrition, and natural history.
  • In-depth knowledge of avian husbandry, incubation techniques, and related principles.
  • Familiarity with marine mammal husbandry and training methodologies.
  • Knowledge of marine mammal, avian, and reptilian husbandry and rehabilitation practices.
