Role overview
Travis Perkins plc is looking for a Yard Customer/Sales Expert to join its branch team in Colchester. In this front-line role, you will serve customers visiting the yard, support day-to-day operations, and help ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment. The position combines customer service with hands-on yard work and vehicle handling.
What you will do
- Serve customers in the yard and deliver a high standard of friendly, helpful service.
- Build positive working relationships with customers, including regular trade customers.
- Process customer orders from the outdoor yard area.
- Load and unload customer and company vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Receive building products from suppliers and accurately check them into the branch warehouse.
- Operate a forklift when required; full training will be provided if needed.
- Keep the work area tidy, organised, and compliant with safety expectations.
What the role calls for
This is a customer-facing position where communication, teamwork, and reliability matter. You should be comfortable working outdoors, handling heavy building materials, and staying active throughout the day. The environment can be fast paced and varied, so adaptability, resilience, and energy are important.
Training and development
As a new team member, you may be encouraged to join a development programme. You will also receive support through a development plan aligned with the company’s values, giving you the chance to grow your career over time.
Pay and benefits
The role offers competitive pay plus benefits. The package includes an annual colleague bonus, contributory pension, private healthcare, life assurance, a sharesave scheme, and colleague discounts across the wider Travis Perkins Group, including Toolstation. You can also access online savings with a range of retailers, from airport parking and theme parks to dining and cinemas.
Working pattern
The working hours are designed to support a good work-life balance. Most customers visit on weekdays, which means weekends and bank holidays are generally free for colleagues.
