Job description

Role summary

This internal Ward Assistant position in the Acute Medical Unit is focused on keeping the ward organised, safe, and ready for patient care. The role is designed to free up registered nurses by taking on non-clinical tasks and helping ensure equipment, supplies, and work areas are kept in order.

The postholder will help maintain a clean and efficient ward environment, support patient movement, manage stock, and carry out a range of ward-based administrative and catering duties.

Main duties

  • Carry out regular checks of the ward environment and take action to keep the area orderly.
  • Clean clinical areas using the correct equipment, products, methods, and cleaning schedules.
  • Support ward catering duties as required.
  • Assist with moving patients safely and appropriately.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels so supplies remain available, labelled, charged, and ready for use.
  • Help with administrative tasks linked to the running of the ward.
  • Work collaboratively with Facilities staff, Ward Clerks, Porters, and Stock Controllers.
  • Support a clutter-free nurses’ station and efficient bed space cleaning and preparation to promote smooth patient flow.
