Job description

About Kanbrick

Kanbrick is a long-horizon investment partner that works with a select group of family-owned and founder-led businesses, helping them grow through the Kanbrick Business System (KBS). The firm was started by Tracy Britt Cool and Brian Humphrey with the goal of being the kind of partner they would have wanted for their own families’ companies: patient, hands-on, and built around mutually beneficial partnerships.

The team is made up of operators and business builders who work directly with leaders at partner companies rather than simply advising from the sidelines. Through KBS, they collaborate closely with midsize businesses to help drive progress in a practical, execution-focused way. Kanbrick also brings together a broader community of CEOs and owners to share ideas, learn from one another, and grow together.

Working here means contributing to something designed to compound over time. The organization is intentionally small, focused on building durable businesses, and oriented toward results that continue to matter for years, not quarters. The firm values capability, character, and culture, with a simple set of principles: act like owners, improve continuously, live with integrity, and win together.

Role Overview

The VP, Strategy & Operations is a senior member of the KBS team, Kanbrick’s operating group that works inside partner companies. The position spans three major areas: CEO partnership, hands-on value creation, and community building.

CEO Partnership

In this role, you will serve as the KBS lead for four to six companies. You’ll manage the relationship with each CEO, help shape and maintain the integrated growth plan, coordinate the broader KBS team so they can do their best work, and help create an experience where the CEO and leadership team view Kanbrick as an exceptional partner. You will work alongside an Investing Lead at each company and take on the role progressively as the firm expands.

Hands-On Value Creation

Beyond CEO support, you will contribute directly to work that drives measurable results across several companies at the same time. The specific challenges will vary based on the business and the moment, and may include areas such as salesforce effectiveness, digital enablement, lean operations, AI and technology adoption, or other strategic levers. The ideal candidate is a flexible generalist who can shift quickly from analysis to execution and then to outcomes.

Community Building

Kanbrick Community is a network of more than 4,000 CEOs and owners from family and founder-led businesses. You’ll help strengthen that network by building authentic relationships, delivering virtual and in-person content, and participating actively in community programs.

Success in the first 12 to 18 months will mean building trusted relationships with the CEOs and executive teams at roughly four partner companies, becoming the lead partner at two or three of them, making a measurable impact in multiple contexts, and contributing meaningfully to the Community.

What We’re Looking For

Kanbrick wants someone who has both operated in a role with real accountability, such as owning a P&L or leading a senior function, and also has experience in a services-firm or private-equity operations environment where influence matters as much as authority.

Core Qualities

  • You build trust with CEOs through depth, judgment, and curiosity rather than relying on title or position.
  • You are motivated by helping other people succeed and get energy from enabling strong work by others.
  • You have a strong sense of where value is created and lost, and you can defend your perspective with both CEOs and investment partners.
  • You already use AI as a practical tool for diagnosing issues, planning work, and improving delivery speed.
  • You believe long-term capital and patient partnership are a better model in principle, not just in theory.
  • You are comfortable doing real work from start to finish and can move between strategic thinking and detailed execution with ease.

What Success Looks Like

In the first 12 to 18 months, the expectation is that you will have strong relationships with leaders across about four partner companies, be acting as the lead partner at two or three of them, apply your expertise to create visible impact in several settings, and play an active role in the Community.

Benefits and Compensation

Kanbrick offers a collaborative and high-performing team environment, opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to a growing investment partnership, and exposure to demanding, rewarding work. Compensation includes a competitive senior-level package with meaningful equity participation in the partnership; more details can be discussed during the interview process.

Additional Information

This is a hands-on position with increasing responsibility over time. The company is looking for someone who is curious, resourceful, and excited to learn from experienced operators and investors while helping leaders grow exceptional businesses.
