Job description
Lonely Planet is seeking a skilled and imaginative Contract Visual Designer to enhance our team. This position involves creating engaging static and motion graphics for both print and digital content, encompassing partnerships, advertising materials, social media visuals, marketing collateral, and event assets. The designer will report to the Principal Visual Designer and collaborate closely with Product, Partnerships, Editorial, and Marketing departments across the organization.
This role is based in New York, NY.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Principal Visual Designer and the creative team to develop designs for Lonely Planet's various brand channels.
- Produce creative assets for go-to-market strategies, sponsorship opportunities, and out-of-home marketing campaigns.
- Conceptualize and animate motion graphics for campaigns, brand content, pitches, and live events.
- Design impactful email campaigns and social media assets, including grid posts, carousels, and stories.
- Develop client-facing pitch decks, strategy visuals, and presentation materials that effectively communicate ideas and value.
- Contribute to the creation of scalable visual design principles and concise guidelines that align with the Lonely Planet brand system.
- Translate brand and campaign briefs into compelling visual narratives that boost engagement and conversions.
- Ensure consistency, quality, and craftsmanship across all static and motion touchpoints, while creatively exploring within brand guidelines.
- Maintain a sophisticated and premium brand aesthetic in all customer-facing experiences.
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related discipline.
- Possess at least 3 years of professional design experience in digital and print media, with a proven track record in creating motion or animated content.
- Demonstrate experience in designing graphics for social media, email marketing, web, print, and promotional materials.
- Have experience producing motion assets for presentations, social media, and digital campaigns.
- Show proven ability in preparing files for both digital publication and professional print production.
- Exhibit proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, along with a solid working knowledge of After Effects for motion design and animation.
- Be proficient in Figma.
- Have experience working within established brand guidelines and creating new visual and motion assets as needed.
- Possess strong typographic skills and a keen eye for visual detail.
- Maintain a strong portfolio that showcases creative, effective, and visually cohesive work, including examples of motion and animated design.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage feedback and revisions constructively and professionally.
- Exhibit strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Be capable of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Possess a deep understanding of timing, pacing, and visual storytelling for motion design.
- Knowledge of basic video editing workflows is considered a plus.
- Prior experience in marketing or communications environments is preferred.
This role is a contract position based in New York, NY.
Compensation: The total cash compensation range for this role in New York City is $80,000 – $100,000 per year. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as location, experience, and qualifications.
