Job description

About the role

deepeye Medical is building AI-powered software that helps eye specialists plan therapies more effectively. Their technology uses computer vision and deep learning, trained on large case datasets and millions of images, to estimate how diseases may progress, tailor treatment decisions, and improve patient outcomes. The product focuses on common eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, which affects around 7.5 million people in Germany alone.

The team is seeking a creative student for a paid internship lasting 4 to 6 months.

What you will work on

You will partner closely with the Product Manager and engineering team to connect complex medical data with practical clinical decision-making.

Your work will include improving the deepeye TPS interface, building prototypes for new functionality, and resolving design problems so the AI output is understandable and safe for ophthalmologists.

You will take part in ongoing product discovery and usability research to learn how the software fits into real clinical workflows and how it can satisfy regulatory expectations.

You will also coordinate with stakeholders across Clinical Success, Sales, Product Management, Clinical Affairs, and the CEO to validate designs with end users.

In addition, you will help identify and reduce technical friction by evaluating tools that make the handoff from design to frontend more efficient.

General design support to keep a consistent visual language across the company’s products will also be part of the role.

Requirements

The company is looking for a student who is currently enrolled in a program such as User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, or a related discipline, and who must complete a mandatory internship as part of their studies.

You should have solid knowledge of UI/UX principles and prototyping, a sharp eye for detail, and a strong interest in building clean, user-focused interfaces.

You need the ability to turn complex clinical information into clear and easy-to-read visuals.

Basic familiarity with user research and testing is expected.

Working English at C1 level or above is required. German is helpful but not mandatory.

Nice-to-have experience includes exposure to medical device software or designing for healthcare professionals, interest in design-to-code automation and technical workflows, and a portfolio showing the full process from research through high-fidelity prototypes.

Benefits

This internship offers the opportunity to contribute directly to better patient care by helping doctors make stronger treatment decisions.

You will have a high level of independence from the beginning and the chance to learn quickly in a fast-moving HealthTech startup.

The role comes with flexible working hours, hybrid work options, and a central office near Munich main station.

You will join an open, startup-style culture and a diverse team that includes more than 10 nationalities, spans about 30 years in age range, has 44% female representation, and brings experience from more than 10 startups, over 100 medical devices, and more than 100,000 retinal therapies.

There is also a possibility of continuing as a working student after successfully completing the internship.

Application notes

Applicants should submit their availability, CV, and a link to work samples such as a PDF portfolio or an online portfolio through the web form. A cover letter is not required, though a short personal note about your motivation to help prevent blindness with AI is welcome.

Additional information

This is a paid internship with a duration of 4 to 6 months.

Leave it if you'd like a reply — we won't use it for anything else.
