Role Summary
This is a full-time, on-site position in Invercargill for a Tyre Collection Driver. The role focuses on operating a truck to pick up used tyres from customer premises, business locations, and designated collection points, while following assigned routes and instructions. The job also includes safe loading and securing of tyres, maintaining collection records, checking the vehicle before and after trips, and reporting any safety or maintenance concerns. The driver will communicate with customers professionally, confirm collection requirements, and help ensure each service is completed correctly and on time. All work must comply with road, safety, and environmental rules, and the driver will coordinate with the operations team for routing and delivery to approved facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive a truck safely and handle commercial vehicles in line with operating standards.
- Pick up tyres from customer sites, businesses, and set collection points according to scheduled routes.
- Load, secure, and transport tyres safely throughout the day.
- Complete collection logs and related service records accurately.
- Carry out pre-trip and post-trip inspections and note any vehicle issues.
- Report maintenance or safety problems promptly to the appropriate team.
- Communicate professionally with customers and confirm collection details as needed.
- Work with the operations team to coordinate routes and deliveries to approved facilities.
- Follow all road rules, workplace safety requirements, environmental standards, and company policies.
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have solid truck-driving ability and experience handling heavy vehicles safely. A valid CDL Class A, or an equivalent heavy vehicle licence, along with a clean driving record is required. Good communication and customer service skills are important for dealing with clients and colleagues in a professional way. The role also requires physical fitness, the ability to lift and move tyres safely, and familiarity with basic vehicle checks, inspection routines, and reporting processes. Applicants should be able to follow route plans, schedules, and instructions carefully, with a strong focus on detail, safety, and compliance. Experience in waste collection, transport, logistics, or a similar field is helpful but not essential.
