Ventia is seeking experienced Transmission Line Mechanics to join its Christchurch-based team. The position supports transmission line work across Canterbury, the West Coast, and Tasman, helping deliver essential infrastructure for New Zealand’s electricity network.

What the job involves
In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and upgrading transmission line assets throughout the region. The work is physically active, carried out across multiple sites, and involves outdoor conditions and varied environments.
- Construct, maintain, and repair transmission line structures and associated hardware
- Climb structures and work safely at height in different weather conditions
- Assist with line stringing, conductor installation, and maintenance activities
- Help ensure transmission assets operate safely and reliably
- Work closely with crew members to complete projects safely, on schedule, and to a high standard
Employment details
This is a permanent, full-time position based on a 40-hour working week. The hourly pay range is $35 to $45.
What you should bring
Ventia is looking for a motivated, safety-conscious person who enjoys outdoor work and being part of a team.
- 2 to 3 years of relevant experience as a Transmission Line Mechanic or in line construction and maintenance
- EWRB Line Mechanic registration; trainee line mechanic registration is also acceptable
- Ability to work at heights and in changing weather conditions
- Strong commitment to health and safety and safe work methods
- Positive, proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop
- Full Class 1 driver licence, with Class 2 or higher considered an advantage, or an equivalent licence
