Role overview
Transdev Ontario Manitoba is recruiting Transit Drivers for an active opening based out of its Ajax office, with service coverage across the expanded Durham region. The position centers on safe, respectful, door-to-door transportation for passengers who may have special needs, along with reliable support throughout each trip.
What the job involves
In this role, you will help passengers board and exit vehicles, guide wheelchairs, secure mobility equipment, and provide hands-on assistance when needed. You will also play an important part in keeping riders safe and comfortable by properly securing passengers, assistive devices, and mobility aids during travel.
Another key part of the job is delivering a high level of customer care. That includes helping riders with questions about fares, schedules, and stops, while maintaining a professional and helpful approach at all times.
Key responsibilities
- Provide door-to-door transportation service to passengers.
- Assist riders when boarding and exiting vehicles, including support for wheelchair movement.
- Use securement belts and help load or position portable assistive devices as required.
- Ensure passengers, mobility aids, and other devices are secured correctly for safe travel.
- Share accurate information about fares, schedules, and stop locations.
- Maintain a journey environment that is safe, comfortable, and passenger-focused.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with passengers and colleagues.
- Follow company procedures, policies, and safety requirements at all times.
Requirements
- Strong driving habits and a clean driving history.
- Ability to pass a clean criminal record check and/or vulnerable sector screening.
- Valid G class licence and professional driving capability.
- Comfort and patience when supporting people with special needs.
- Physical ability to lift and handle assistive devices and mobility equipment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Previous experience in a comparable role is an advantage.
- Willingness to work around service animals.
- Good familiarity with the city of Durham.
- Availability for mornings, afternoons, evenings, and nights, including weekdays and weekends; both full-time and part-time shifts are available.
Pay and benefits
The hourly wage for this position is $20.00.
