Job description

Role overview

Landmarc Support Services is hiring a Training Area Operative to join its team in maintaining a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible training environment for the Armed Forces. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys outdoor work, wants to support military training, and is keen to build a long-term career on the Defence Training Estate.

No previous experience is required. The organisation provides full training along with ongoing development opportunities, making this a strong entry point into the Defence Training Estate. A positive, can-do approach is more important than prior background.

The position is based at Air Weapons Range, Pembrey Sands, Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, SA16 0HZ.

Working pattern

The shift pattern runs Monday to Thursday from 08:15 to 17:15, and on Fridays from 08:15 to 15:00. The role is a permanent position with a weekly working time of 42.75 hours.

Interviews are scheduled for Tuesday 28th July. Interview-related communication will be sent by email, so applicants should keep an eye on their inbox and junk folder.

Key duties

  • Help keep the Defence Training Estate in excellent condition.
  • Perform planned, preventative and responsive maintenance work.
  • Operate and look after plant and equipment, with training provided where needed.
  • Build and deploy training targets.
  • Drive and operate fleet vehicles as part of the role.
  • Use warning and control systems, including flags, lights and training control offices.
  • Follow strict safety standards across all facilities and working areas.
  • Complete records and documentation using both digital tools and paper-based processes.

Candidate profile

Landmarc is seeking someone with practical maintenance awareness, strong communication skills and the confidence to work with basic digital tools such as a tablet. The right person should be comfortable working in a varied, fast-moving team environment and should have a solid understanding of health and safety expectations.

A valid manual UK driving licence is required for this post.

Benefits

The role includes a competitive salary and a broad package of benefits designed to support financial security, wellbeing and career development.

  • Stakeholder pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 8% of salary.
  • 25 days of annual leave, calculated on a pro-rata basis.
  • Holiday entitlement increases with service.
  • Option to buy up to 10 extra days of leave each year.
  • Edenred savings scheme offering discounts and savings for employees and their families.
  • Annual pay review carried out in consultation with recognised trade unions.
  • Life assurance at three times annual salary.
  • Health cash plan that can cover the employee and family members, including up to four children under 24.
  • Reimbursement of professional fees and support for ongoing training.
  • Family-friendly policies to support key life events.
  • Sick pay available after 6 months of service.
