Job description
About the Role
WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre is looking for a Trading Assistant to join its visitor-facing team in South Wales. This role helps shape a welcoming and enjoyable day out for guests while also contributing to wetland conservation work.
You will support the shop and café, greet visitors, answer questions about the centre, wildlife and activities, and encourage support for WWT through memberships, adoptions and retail purchases. The role also includes keeping displays appealing, restocking items, working the till, taking cash payments, and upholding strong standards in customer service, food hygiene and presentation across the trading areas.
The work is varied and fast-moving, so the day may shift from serving drinks to assisting a family with their visit, highlighting products, or explaining conservation work. You’ll be part of a supportive team, build practical retail and customer service experience, and help visitors connect with nature.
Every transaction and positive interaction helps generate income for WWT’s wider mission to restore wetlands and protect the benefits they provide for wildlife, people and the planet.
Work Pattern and Contract
This is a permanent part-time role on an annualised hours contract, averaging 13 hours per week. Pay is made in equal monthly instalments. Hours can change with the seasons, and the role includes weekend, bank holiday and school holiday working. It is a fully site-based position and not suitable for hybrid working.
Candidate Profile
The successful applicant should be comfortable working with the public in a busy environment, communicate clearly with people from different backgrounds, and work well as part of a team. Accuracy with cash handling, till use and financial processes is important, as is a proactive approach to selling memberships, products and visitor experiences. Good organisation, attention to detail, and care for presentation, stock management and food safety are also needed.
An interest in nature, conservation and WWT’s purpose will help you share the organisation’s messages with visitors in a genuine and engaging way.
About WWT
WWT is focused on restoring wetlands and unlocking the value of these ecosystems. The organisation’s work is carried out by a dedicated team across visitor engagement, research and conservation.
Benefits
Working at WWT comes with a range of benefits, including generous annual leave, free entry to all wetland centres for you and your family, parking and cycle storage, staff discounts, a cycle-to-work scheme, pension contributions, life assurance and access to confidential advice through an employee support programme.
