About Suncor

Suncor is a leading energy company dedicated to producing and supplying the energy that powers our world. Joining Suncor means becoming part of an organization that prioritizes both business success and employee growth, fostering an environment where talented individuals can flourish. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in delivering essential energy resources and making a significant positive impact on the communities where we operate.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain short- to medium-term market outlooks for North American gasoline, distillate, and jet fuel, focusing on supply/demand balances, inventory fluctuations, and significant market discrepancies.
  • Analyze historical market patterns and predict future behavior by incorporating real-time operational data, inventory indicators, and global trade movements into coherent market narratives.
  • Formulate perspectives on refinery operations, including production rates, limitations, output yields, and profit margins, and connect these factors to anticipated price structures and market volatility.
  • Engage with analysts from various regions to exchange insights, harmonize market viewpoints, and participate in weekly discussions concerning refined products fundamentals, as well as potential trading opportunities and associated risks.
  • Create, develop, and maintain tools for monitoring seasonal trends, regional price differences, and refining margins across key global areas.
  • Observe global shipping movements and projected imports/exports to anticipate regional supply shortages or surpluses.
  • Stay informed about policy changes, regulatory updates, and energy transition developments that could affect refined product consumption, blending economics, and pricing.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience within a commodity-based trading environment, encompassing roles in trading, risk management, analytics, commercial operations, or market analysis.
  • A university degree in a relevant field such as business, finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or another quantitative discipline.
  • Proficiency in using Python and/or R for data manipulation, model development, and process automation.
  • Familiarity with North American physical refined products markets and their associated logistics.
  • A working understanding of financial and physical trading instruments, including forwards, futures, swaps, and options.
  • The ability to consistently transform complex data into clear, actionable insights for traders and risk management teams.

Perks

  • Opportunity to work in a dynamic energy sector.
  • Be part of a company committed to employee success and community impact.
  • Potential for extended work hours based on business needs.
