Role overview

Aldar Academies is hiring a Mathematics Teacher for Yas American Academy on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, with the role due to begin in March 2026. This opportunity sits within the wider Aldar family of schools, known for its strong track record and contribution to education in Abu Dhabi.

Yas American Academy has been serving the Emirate since opening in September 2016. The school follows the Massachusetts Common Core Curriculum, adapted to suit its students, alongside Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Social Studies from the local curriculum. Campus facilities include an astro-turf field, two swimming pools, a well-resourced library, a large multipurpose sports hall, an auditorium, and outdoor play spaces.

The school aims to offer a welcoming, supportive, and respectful learning atmosphere where students are encouraged to enjoy learning and achieve their best. Candidates are expected to reflect the school’s values and ethos and show a genuine respect for the culture and values of the region.

Teaching and learning

  • Apply a strong understanding of the curriculum to ensure lessons are delivered effectively and aligned to learning goals.
  • Use the prescribed syllabus, learning materials, and schemes of work to build mathematics skills.
  • Set up the classroom and learning resources, including displays, to create an engaging and positive environment.
  • Design, prepare, and deliver lessons that address the full range of student ability in the class.
  • Plan lessons and lesson sequences carefully across long-, medium-, and short-term timelines to meet individual learning needs.
  • Create a classroom climate that supports high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Deliver lessons that are creative, enjoyable, and challenging while encouraging critical thinking.
  • Define clear teaching and learning targets and work toward measurable student progress.
  • Reflect on lesson delivery, student progress, and classroom conditions, then adjust plans and curriculum accordingly.
  • Support students with special educational needs, English as an additional language, and gifted and talented learners through differentiation.
  • Deliver learning effectively in hybrid, distance, and face-to-face formats.

Behaviour, safeguarding, and duties

  • Follow the school’s policies and procedures, including behaviour standards, code of conduct, and child safeguarding requirements.
  • Manage classes in ways that suit student needs and help inspire, motivate, and stretch learners.
  • Build positive relationships with students, use authority appropriately, and respond decisively when needed within school guidelines.
  • Serve as a positive role model by consistently demonstrating the attitudes, values, and behaviour expected of pupils.
  • Maintain high expectations for conduct and encourage self-discipline and independence.
  • Help maintain a safe and secure learning environment that supports students’ social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned, in line with school policy.

Qualifications and experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related subject is required, along with a PGCE or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar teaching role is required.

Professional and personal attributes

  • Be approachable, calm, professional, and well-informed.
  • Handle a wide range of stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Show enthusiasm for teaching and a strong commitment to the development and care of children.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism and a strong focus on student wellbeing.
  • Have recent and ongoing involvement in extracurricular activities.
  • Bring a constructive, solutions-oriented approach to work.
  • Demonstrate warmth, empathy, integrity, confidence, drive, and a child-centred outlook.
  • Be able to manage priorities and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Be comfortable using IT tools and online technologies that support modern teaching.
  • Communicate confidently with parents in a diverse, multicultural setting.
