Overview
Mercer is looking for a Tax Advisor to join its NZ Fund Services team. The position can be based in Wellington or Auckland and follows a hybrid working model with flexible work options.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the NZ Tax Manager with tax compliance duties for Mercer Funds in New Zealand, covering income tax and PIE tax obligations.
- Work with external tax specialists, registry teams, and custodians to make sure tax data is accurate and all compliance requirements are met.
- Check annual income tax provisions, trust distributions, tax statements, and unit pricing tax accruals to confirm they align with internal policies.
- Help ensure the funds remain aligned with applicable tax policies, procedures, and risk controls.
- Support tax-focused projects, including new business proposals, fund restructures, and product development initiatives.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary qualification in business, accounting, tax, law, commerce, or a related field is expected.
- Applicants may be working toward CA completion, although CA qualification is not mandatory.
- At least 2 to 3 years of post-qualification experience in tax-related roles is required; experience in financial services is preferred but not essential.
- Strong practical understanding of New Zealand tax policy, especially unit trusts and PIE taxation.
- Well-developed analytical ability, sound judgement, and close attention to detail.
- Clear interpersonal and communication skills for dealing effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
- Background in financial services or fund management environments.
- Ability to build and maintain productive relationships across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Exposure to tax compliance work in a fund accounting setting.
- Confidence in contributing to tax policy reviews and wider business projects.
