Job description
About Plain
Plain is building a new kind of customer support platform for modern B2B businesses. The company’s goal is to help teams move past reactive support and create stronger customer relationships through a faster, more capable product.
Well-known teams such as Cursor, Vercel, and Granola use Plain to bring customer conversations into one place, improve collaboration across teams, and use AI to speed up workflows.
The company sees B2B support as being in the middle of a major shift, with AI changing how companies interact with customers across Slack, Discord, and other channels. Plain is replacing older support models that are slow, manual, and disconnected.
Plain is hiring a Talent Lead to help build the teams that will shape this next stage of support software.
This position follows a hybrid setup, with three days each week required in the London office.
What you'll be responsible for
This is a hands-on talent-building role, not one that steps into a fully established function. You will help define and create the talent approach from the ground up.
- Take ownership of engineering recruitment across the entire process, including sourcing, process design, candidate experience, and closing offers.
- Create the systems, workflows, and tools needed to make hiring repeatable and scalable.
- Work closely with engineering leaders to maintain a consistently high hiring bar as the company grows.
What makes someone a strong fit
Plain is looking for someone with clear views on high-quality hiring and the confidence to stand behind them. The right person will have deep experience running full-cycle recruitment for product engineering, machine learning, AI, infrastructure, and related areas at a very high standard.
The role suits someone who can spot engineers who work quickly with AI while still thinking critically and independently. You should know how to build candidate pipelines through referrals, employer branding, outbound sourcing, or a combination of these approaches.
This role also requires an interest in hiring operations and tooling, not just relationship management. You should be able to manage several searches simultaneously without losing quality or weakening the candidate experience. Close partnership with engineering leadership is essential, and you should be comfortable stepping in across Talent Ops, People Ops, and GTM hiring when needed.
Who this role is not for
This opportunity will not suit someone who treats recruitment as a volume-driven exercise, prefers a fully mature talent setup, is uncomfortable working side by side with engineering leaders, or wants to delegate sourcing and pipeline ownership to others.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is £90,000 to £115,000 per year.
