Role overview
This position is based in New Plymouth and sits within a dedicated team delivering vital social services. The role focuses on helping people in supportive housing work through life challenges, improve wellbeing, and move toward stable, affordable long-term housing. It is centred on social development, empowerment, and practical support through assessment, goal planning, intervention, feedback, and review.
Key accountabilities
- Provide a professional, compassionate, and effective service to individuals, families, and communities.
- Approach people with inclusion, acceptance, and genuine interest while acknowledging their story and goals.
- Listen carefully and support people to reflect on their situation and develop practical solutions that build lasting independence.
- Link clients to internal and external supports based on their goals so better outcomes can be achieved.
- Work in line with the organisation’s Model of Care, policies, and procedures.
- Track progress against expected outcomes and ensure reporting is accurate and aligned with practice.
- Connect people with services such as Community Ministries and Corps programmes that can improve their circumstances and address individual needs.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Support the delivery of the social housing programme.
- Remain committed to the organisation’s mission and values.
- Follow all health and safety requirements and related policies.
Candidate profile
- A relevant tertiary qualification at Level 5 or above in social services or a related field is required.
- At least 2 years’ experience in case management and holistic, wrap-around support.
- Ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, including those facing hardship, trauma, or mental ill-health.
- Strong commitment to walking alongside people and encouraging them to take ownership of their goals.
- Capacity to adjust communication and approach depending on the audience and situation.
- A practical, solutions-oriented mindset with maturity and empathy when solving problems and removing barriers.
- Self-motivated in identifying training needs and professional development opportunities with a line manager.

Hours and remuneration
This is a permanent full-time role of 40 hours per week. The starting salary is between $58,000 and $77,107.21, with final pay determined by the selected candidate’s relevant experience and the pay equity agreement.
