Role Description
The Supply Chain Planner will oversee demand forecasting, inventory management, and communication with internal departments and external suppliers within a food manufacturing setting that complies with FSMA and GFSI food safety regulations. This position is crucial for ensuring uninterrupted supply to support production, maintaining excellent customer service, and upholding high standards for food safety, quality, traceability, and supplier compliance. The ideal candidate will be a team player, meticulous, and adept at responding quickly in a dynamic work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain customer-specific demand forecasts to align with the production schedule.
- Manage demand planning for frequent internal stock transfers from third-party logistics facilities.
- Collaborate with customers to ensure adequate inventory levels are maintained to support production needs.
- Proactively identify and address potential material supply risks that could compromise food safety, product quality, or customer commitments.
- Lead the weekly Inventory Review meeting, assessing inventory status, identifying risks, monitoring aging stock, reviewing items on hold, and defining corrective actions.
- Conduct monthly analysis of material inventories in conjunction with the Warehouse Manager to verify accuracy.
- Issue, manage, and track purchase orders for direct materials, maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) supplies, as well as quality and food safety-related materials and services.
- Expedite purchase orders when necessary to prevent production interruptions, ensuring adherence to approved supplier and material lists.
- Verify that all purchasing activities comply with approved specifications, supplier approvals, and SQF documentation requirements.
- Establish and maintain accurate supplier, item, and purchasing records within the ERP system, ensuring alignment with approved specifications and quality programs.
- Oversee the supplier and material approval processes according to established procedures.
- Maintain the official Approved Supplier List.
- Address and resolve ordering, delivery, or documentation discrepancies with suppliers, and ensure the timely receipt of Certificates of Analysis (COAs) before material release.
- Contribute to supplier risk management by identifying supply chain vulnerabilities and participating in sourcing and contingency planning efforts.
- Support traceability, recall preparedness, and audit readiness through precise documentation and prompt communication.
- Participate in SQF audits, internal audits, and management review meetings as required.
- Collaborate effectively with Production, Quality, Warehouse, Finance, and Customer Service teams to resolve issues related to materials, inventory, and supply.
- Provide prompt, customer-centric support to internal departments while ensuring compliance and control.
- Act as a primary point of contact between internal teams and external suppliers.
Work Environment
This role operates within a food manufacturing and warehouse setting. It involves regular interaction with the Warehouse, Quality, Operations, and Finance departments. Participation in SQF audits, surveillance audits, and recertification activities is expected.
Additional Information
The company offers a competitive compensation package including a base salary of $80,000 per year, with eligibility for a 10% bonus. This is a full-time, onsite position located in Battle Creek, MI.
