Job description
Overview
This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an accomplished Supply Chain & Logistics Manager to take ownership of a complex, multi-site operation. The position covers supply planning, stock control, warehousing, distribution, fleet oversight, procurement, premises management, and ongoing improvement across three primary warehouses and regional depots.
The successful person will be expected to keep product flowing, improve operating efficiency, maintain cost discipline, and deliver strong service levels while also supporting growth and wider supply chain change programmes.
This role may be especially well suited to candidates living in Athlone or the broader Midlands area, as it provides practical access to both Galway operations and Dublin-based stakeholders when needed.
Supply Chain Planning and Inventory Control
- Direct end-to-end planning and inventory activities across several locations.
- Maintain healthy stock positions while meeting customer service needs and working capital goals.
- Shape demand planning processes so they align with sales forecasts and day-to-day operational needs.
- Strengthen stock visibility, inventory accuracy, and optimisation efforts.
- Cut down losses, write-offs, obsolescence, and slow-moving stock.
- Put in place strong stock-control processes, cycle counting routines, and inventory governance.
- Lead initiatives to rationalise SKUs and standardise products where suitable.
Warehousing and Distribution
- Run operations across three warehouses and regional depots.
- Improve performance across goods receipt, storage, inventory management, order fulfilment, picking, and dispatch.
- Create consistent warehousing and logistics practices across all sites.
- Spot and act on opportunities to raise productivity, efficiency, and service levels.
- Ensure all activities meet health, safety, quality, and operational requirements.
Fleet Oversight
- Manage the full vehicle lifecycle, from acquisition and maintenance through to usage, replacement planning, and cost control.
- Keep fleet capacity aligned with operational and customer service demands.
- Work with leasing firms, maintenance vendors, and external suppliers.
- Maintain compliance with CVRT, tax, insurance, driver policy, and transport legislation.
- Improve route planning, vehicle utilisation, and overall efficiency.
- Promote a strong safety culture across fleet activity, with emphasis on driver safety, incident prevention, compliance, and risk management.
Procurement and Supplier Management
- Handle supplier relationships covering equipment, consumables, logistics, and operational services.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, service agreements, and lead times.
- Track supplier performance and contribute to continuity plans.
- Deliver procurement savings without reducing service quality.
Facilities and Premises
- Oversee warehouse and depot infrastructure across multiple locations.
- Keep facilities safe, compliant, and suitable for operational use.
- Manage maintenance plans and external service providers.
- Support expansion, consolidation, and infrastructure upgrade projects.
Continuous Improvement and Transformation
- Lead Lean, process improvement, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Drive ERP optimisation, digitalisation, improved inventory visibility, and enhanced reporting.
- Create KPIs, dashboards, and management reports to support performance gains.
- Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives such as depot optimisation, fleet strategy, and supply chain transformation.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Work closely with Operations, Sales, Finance, Procurement, and Customer Care teams.
- Support forecasting, service planning, inventory optimisation, and cost management activities.
- Ensure supply chain capability supports business goals, customer expectations, and future growth.
- Develop strong working relationships across the organisation to encourage performance and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a Supply Chain Manager, Logistics Manager, Supply Chain Operations Manager, Distribution Manager, Warehouse & Logistics Manager, or comparable leadership role.
- Solid background managing multi-site supply chain and logistics operations.
- Proven capability in inventory control, demand planning, stock management, warehousing, and distribution.
- Hands-on fleet management experience, including compliance, utilisation, and cost management.
- Experience in a field-service, distribution, asset-heavy, industrial, manufacturing, or logistics environment.
- Ability to balance daily operational delivery with strategic improvement work.
- Strong commercial judgement and financial awareness.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Track record of driving continuous improvement, process enhancement, and organisational change.
