Job description

About Outset Studio

Founded in 2018, Outset was created to provide podcasters, broadcasters, and other creators with a professional environment to produce high-quality content. Since then, the company has expanded to several locations in London, including London Bridge and Shoreditch/Hoxton, as well as Manchester, and continues to grow.

The team is hiring a Studio Assistant for its Manchester site. This position is central to the day-to-day running of the studio: you will be the first point of contact for clients, prepare the space before each session, help keep everything operating smoothly, and ensure guests have a positive experience. You may also support in-house creative projects from time to time.

The ideal person is practical, proactive, and comfortable using their own judgement rather than relying on step-by-step instructions for every task. A calm approach, strong organization, and good people skills are especially valuable in this environment. Candidates with a real interest in podcasting, audio, video, and content creation who want hands-on studio experience are encouraged to apply.

What the role involves

  • Preparing the studio before each booking, including neat cable setup and ensuring equipment is positioned correctly.
  • Greeting clients, helping them settle in, and showing them how to make the most of the studio facilities.
  • Handling cameras and audio gear when support from a videographer or sound engineer is required.
  • Tracking inventory, maintaining equipment, and making sure items are accounted for.
  • Keeping the workspace clean, organized, and ready for the next client session.

Full training is provided and paid, along with straightforward systems and procedures to help you get up to speed, even if you have not done every task before.

What the team is looking for

  • Some exposure to editing tools; experience with Adobe Premiere Pro would be an advantage.
  • Strong planning skills, with the ability to stay organized and work independently.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in content, audience engagement, and creative work.
  • A dependable, detail-focused person who works well with others.
  • Confidence to stay composed and adapt when plans change.

Pay and benefits

  • £55 for a half-day booking, including any session shorter than four hours, followed by £13.75 per hour after that.
  • Reduced-rate studio access for personal projects.
  • Opportunity to pitch a podcast concept for sponsorship and support from the team.
  • Scope to grow within a small, ambitious company that invests in development across production, operations, and other areas of strength.

Additional information

This role is for freelancers based in or available for the Manchester location. Training time is paid.
