Job description
Role overview
Lancashire County Council is hiring a Streetworks Inspector to support the county’s permit scheme and oversee works carried out on the highway. This permanent full-time position is based at the team office on Cuerden Way, Bamber Bridge, and covers work across Lancashire.
What the role involves
The postholder will inspect street works in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Lancashire permit scheme. A key part of the role is working with utility providers and contractors to make sure plans are in place, activities are coordinated properly, and public safety is maintained.
The inspector will also help ensure that national codes of practice and local permit requirements are followed at all times, with the aim of reducing disruption and delays caused by works on the road network.
Working arrangement
This is a 37-hour per week role. The working pattern follows a split rota, with one week running from 07:30 to 15:30 and the next from 09:00 to 17:00. The team operates on a 5-over-7 rota, so weekend work is included on a scheduled basis. Flexibility within contracted hours will be needed to meet service needs.
The job requires substantial outdoor activity and travel across Lancashire. A full, valid driving licence is essential, and a Lancashire County Council van or a similar vehicle will be provided for work-related travel. You are also expected to provide a car for use in connection with the role and to have business-use insurance. Candidates who cannot drive because of a disability may still be considered.
