Role overview
The Store Assistant will handle day-to-day store and inventory activities in a shop-floor environment. The role focuses on accurate receiving, issuing, recording, stock control, and support for safe and compliant operations.
Key responsibilities
- Receive all incoming items and dispatch outgoing items by counting, checking, and documenting them correctly.
- Issue materials to the shop floor in a timely way to keep operations moving.
- Record every stock movement and transaction in the ERP system without delay.
- Take part in the monthly physical stock count and help maintain accurate inventory records.
- Keep physical stock aligned with ERP records, targeting 100% accuracy.
- Monitor inventory levels based on usage and lead time so shortages are avoided.
- Raise requests to the purchase team when consumable items need replenishment.
- Encourage reduced paper use, including printing on previously used single-sided paper where practical.
- Complete routine tasks every day and ensure assigned duties are finished on schedule.
- Follow quality, health and safety, and environmental standards in all activities.
- Carry out work safely and comply with HSE rules, procedures, regulations, and codes of practice.
- Report unsafe acts or unsafe conditions to the supervisor or line manager, and seek guidance whenever there is uncertainty about HSE risks.
- Immediately report accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and dangerous conditions to management.
- Avoid horseplay and do not put co-workers at risk through unsafe actions.
- Follow the company’s HSE policy at all times.

- Disclose any illness or other health concerns honestly during induction.
- Maintain 100% PPE compliance according to the machine and area requirements.
- Cooperate with all employer actions intended to meet occupational health and safety obligations.

- Avoid jewellery and loose clothing while working inside the shop floor.
- Handle heavy materials such as 230mm x 4mtr Copper Conductor as trained.
- Use trolleys and tables correctly while moving heavy materials.
- Do not misuse or interfere with health, safety, or welfare equipment provided by the employer.
- Report any current or future injuries, strains, or illnesses suffered by you or colleagues as a result of the job.
- Be familiar with emergency equipment such as fire alarm call points and fire extinguishers.
- Ensure proper training before operating machinery or handling equipment in the organization.
- Understand and apply Safe Work Instructions.
- Participate in emergency drills and be aware of emergency preparedness procedures.
- Know the Emergency Assembly Procedure in full.
- Inform the employer if medication makes you drowsy and you drive or operate machinery.
- Understand the H&S policy and objectives.
- Be fully aware of MSDS requirements.
- Store, handle, and dispose of chemicals or contaminated materials correctly.
- Use suitable PPE when handling toxic chemicals such as acids.
- Be trained in overhead crane operation.
