Job description
About the Role
NHS Scotland is seeking a Staff Nurse to join Uist and Barra Community Hospital on the island of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides, on Scotland's north-west coast. The hospital supports the local community with acute and long-stay inpatient care for 16 to 20 patients, as well as a 24-hour emergency department and outpatient services. The role offers varied and sometimes unpredictable work, with ongoing opportunities to grow clinically while enjoying an island-based work/life balance.
Working Pattern and Employment Details
This is a permanent part-time position of 36 hours per week. The role is graded at Band 5 with a salary of £34,544 to £43,039 per year, plus an additional £1,461 Distant Islands Allowance annually.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should bring strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with a flexible, team-oriented approach. Experience in medical and acute care after registration would be helpful, although it is not mandatory. Newly qualified nurses, as well as candidates due to qualify soon, are encouraged to apply.
Professional and Regulatory Requirements
Evidence of ongoing professional development is required. The successful applicant must register with the Disclosure Scotland PVG Scheme, which protects vulnerable groups. This position does not include relocation expenses.
