Job description
Overview
Corlann’s West Region is recruiting for a Staff Nurse or Enhanced Nurse to work across the Strokestown, Elphin, Tulsk, Ballinagare and Ballaghaderreen areas. The role is a permanent full-time post with 75 hours worked over a fortnight, based within Cruachan Adult Services.
The appointment may involve work in residential, respite, day-service or community settings. The initial assignment will be in one service area, though this may change later depending on operational requirements. A selection panel may also be created from this recruitment process, and it could be used for further permanent, temporary or fixed-term Staff Nurse or Enhanced Nurse vacancies in the Cruachan or Strokestown service locations over the next 6 to 12 months.
Role Summary
This position plays a central supportive and advocacy-focused part in helping adults using the service in all areas of daily life. The nurse is expected to strengthen each person’s independence, support the building of new skills, and contribute to person-centred planning. The post also involves helping individuals make informed decisions, reach their potential, and take part in community life through inclusive, creative, and appropriately positive risk-taking approaches.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must hold a current NMBI live register certificate and have RNID or RGN registration/qualification. A full clean manual driving licence that permits manual transmission driving on Irish roads is mandatory. The role may also require the successful candidate to obtain a Class D1 driving licence; assistance will be provided for this where needed.
Previous experience supporting people with intellectual disability, autism or complex needs would be an advantage, although full induction and training will be supplied. Strong spoken and written English is required, along with competent IT skills.
Working Pattern
The role is scheduled on a 14-day duty roster. Working days, evenings, weekends, public holidays, sleepovers and night duty may all be required to meet service needs. The organisation’s service model is based on Personal Outcome Measures, so flexibility in working hours is essential to maintain high-quality support for each person.
Pay and Conditions
This is a permanent full-time, pensionable appointment. Annual leave is 24 days pro rata per year, with additional service-related leave available after 5 and 10 years of service.
Salary is based on Department of Health scales effective from 01/06/2026 and is calculated on a 37.5-hour working week. Staff Nurse pay ranges from €38,166 to €54,956 per annum, with a long service increment of €56,592 after 3 years at the maximum point of the scale. Enhanced Nurse pay ranges from €45,259 to €56,762 per annum, with a long service increment of €58,424 after 3 years at the maximum point.
Under the HSE HR Circular 022/2019 enhanced nurse/midwife practice arrangements, a Staff Nurse who reaches point 4 on the salary scale may apply for the Enhanced Nurse role, provided the qualifying criteria are met and an application is submitted.
Incremental credit may be granted, subject to verification of prior relevant nursing service. Extra payments apply for weekends, public holidays, sleep-ins and night duty when worked. A location allowance of €2,637 per annum pro rata is also payable when assigned to services where 75% of the people supported have severe or profound intellectual disability.
Additional Information
This recruitment may be used to create a panel for future related appointments within the service over the next 6 to 12 months. The organisation confirms that it is an equal opportunities employer.
Informal enquiries about the role may be directed to Patricia Coleman, Area Manager, at 0871447954. The closing date for completed online application forms/CVs is 5pm on 9 July 2026. The interview date is to be confirmed.
