Job description
About the Organisation
On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland and NHS Education for Scotland came together as one national body with a shared focus on continuity in the present and a stronger, better connected service for the future.
As part of this change, the organisations have formed Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will be central to supporting renewal and helping to secure the long-term future of health and care services across Scotland.
PSD Scotland brings together the strengths and expertise of NES and NSS to help speed up national programmes that support the NHS in delivering improved care now and in years ahead. The organisation provides staff education and training, supplies the tools and data needed to improve services, and delivers key national functions such as procurement, logistics, and blood, tissue, and cell services.
The Role
In this post, you will help ensure the smooth running and effective coordination of whole blood, platelet, and plasma collection sessions, while making sure donors are welcomed, supported, and treated with care. For whole blood sessions, your duties will include venepuncture and medical selection. In apheresis services, you will assess whether donors are suitable for platelet and plasma donation, including reviewing venous access and anticipated platelet yield.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable nurse who is comfortable working collaboratively and can bring a proactive approach to the team. Strong communication, organisation, and people skills are essential, along with an interest in training and quality assurance.
The role requires flexibility and a willingness to work changing hours, including Sundays and regular late evenings. Alongside donor-facing work, you will also help with setting up community donation sessions. This may involve safe manual handling of equipment cages or trolleys weighing up to 60 kg, carried out with a colleague and without mechanical assistance. Full training will be provided across all parts of the post.
Location and Working Pattern
This position sits within the Donor Services Blood Collection Team in Glasgow and involves regular travel throughout the West of Scotland. Working times vary according to service requirements and may include evenings, weekends, Sundays, and public holidays.
Additional Requirements
Appointment is subject to a PVG Scheme check. If you have lived or worked overseas for more than 12 months within the last 5 years, you will also need to provide a criminal record check from the relevant overseas authority.
Applicants must hold current NMC registration at the time of application.
It is a condition of employment that you live and remain resident in the UK and have the right to work in the UK for this post.
Benefits
The benefits package includes a pension scheme, a wide range of work-life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres, and discounted leisure, financial, and shopping benefits.
Inclusion and Equal Opportunities
PSD Scotland is committed to being a diverse and inclusive national organisation where people feel welcomed and supported. Flexible working is encouraged as part of an inclusive workplace, supported by Once for Scotland flexible working policies. The organisation also offers long-term support for staff health and wellbeing, along with learning and development opportunities that strengthen work on diversity, inclusion, and mental health.
There are several equality staff networks that all employees can join. As an equal opportunities employer and accredited Disability Confident Leader, PSD Scotland aims to guarantee interviews to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria. Accessible recruitment and reasonable adjustments are available for candidates who need them.
