Job description
Role overview
This position is focused on running and strengthening safety practices at the site. The aim is to spot risks early, reduce or eliminate them, and escalate critical issues in line with safety policies, legal requirements, and established standards.
Key responsibilities
- Apply existing safety policies, procedures, and SOPs, and help line managers understand and implement them correctly.
- Support the rollout of new safety initiatives and projects in line with site requirements.
- Take part in internal and external health and safety audits for the assigned plant/area, working closely with the Lead Safety function.
- Stay updated on industry best practices by engaging with external forums, associations, and similar bodies, and use that knowledge to improve systems and processes.
- Review safety observations in the assigned area, analyse them, and recommend behaviour-focused corrective actions.
- Maintain shift documentation such as log books, occurrence records, and related safety registers to ensure compliance.
- Investigate safety incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and define action plans to prevent repeat events.
- Contribute to risk-management activities, including identifying controls and supporting incident reviews to reduce key hazards.
- Prepare MIS reports, safety updates, findings, and performance dashboards for plant leadership to improve visibility on safety performance.
- Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and drive improvement actions where needed.
- Create training content and conduct safety awareness sessions for safety executives and site employees.
- Review near-miss cases and recommend focus areas and corrective measures to line management.
- Coordinate and support effective plant-level safety committee meetings.
Education required
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science with a background in Mechanical, Chemical, Instrumentation, or Chemistry.
Desired knowledge and experience
- Working knowledge of safety compliance requirements.
- Understanding of plant operations from a technical perspective.
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory compliance.
- Exposure to HSE assurance practices.
