Role overview

This FBI special agent role is designed for professionals with an accounting or finance foundation who want to apply their analytical expertise to national security and criminal investigations. The job goes beyond routine financial work: you will use your knowledge to help identify fraud, cybercrime, terrorism-related activity, and other threats while developing broader investigative and leadership capabilities through specialized training and hands-on casework.

The position has been exempted from the federal civilian hiring freeze.

Major duties

  • Lead and carry out investigations involving possible breaches of federal law, cyber activity, and public safety concerns.
  • Use strong judgment, adaptability, and initiative to handle changing investigative needs.
  • Build and sustain working relationships with law enforcement partners at the federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international levels.
  • Keep physical conditioning at a level that supports readiness for law enforcement responsibilities.

Key requirements

  • You must be a citizen of the United States.
  • You need to be eligible for a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance.
  • You must be prepared to travel whenever the role requires it.
  • You must satisfy the FBI’s employment eligibility standards.

Education

A bachelor’s degree or a higher qualification is required, preferably in accounting or a closely related subject such as business administration, finance, or forensic accounting, from a U.S.-accredited college or university. All degrees must be confirmed with college transcripts.
