Job description

About the Role

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is seeking individuals with accounting and finance backgrounds to transition into a Special Agent career. This role is exempt from the federal civilian hiring freeze. As a Special Agent, you will play a critical role in safeguarding national security by investigating a wide range of crimes, including cyberattacks, terrorism, and fraud. Your analytical skills, data analysis capabilities, and attention to detail will be crucial in identifying patterns, uncovering vital information, and supporting investigations that protect public safety. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your specialized expertise in complex scenarios, fostering critical thinking and adaptability. The FBI is committed to your professional development, offering competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and a supportive work environment designed to promote work-life balance and career growth.

How Your Accounting and Finance Background Translates to a Special Agent Career

Your existing foundation in accounting and finance, including skills in financial analysis, budgeting, and risk management, is highly valued. Experience with tools and concepts such as R programming, Tableau, and financial accounting provides a strong base for interpreting information, identifying patterns, and making informed decisions in complex situations. At the FBI, these skills will be transformed into identifying evidence, generating insights, and taking ownership of critical investigations. This role is designed for you to move from contributing to determining the direction of investigations.

Major Duties

  • Plan and execute investigations into potential violations of federal laws, cybersecurity threats, and public safety concerns.
  • Utilize judgment, resourcefulness, and adaptability to meet diverse investigative demands.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness to effectively perform law enforcement duties.

Key Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
  • Must be willing to undertake required travel.
  • Must meet all FBI Employment Eligibility requirements.

Education

A bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S. accredited college or university is required. A degree in accounting or a related field such as business administration, finance, or forensic accounting is preferred. All degrees must be verified by submitting official college transcripts.
