Role Overview
Join A Current Affair, Australia’s leading prime-time current affairs program, as a Sound Recordist. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for capturing clear, broadcast-quality audio on location so stories are told with impact. You’ll work in a fast-moving environment alongside a supportive team focused on long-form journalism and storytelling that matters.
What You’ll Do
- Work side by side with reporters and camera crews at shoot locations.
- Capture clean, high-grade audio using boom microphones and lapel mics across a range of environments.
- Keep an eye on multi-channel sound during outside broadcasts and other demanding setups.
- Look after audio gear, including routine checks and problem-solving when issues arise.
- Pitch in with production tasks such as transferring files and preparing transcriptions.
- Travel frequently around Australia for road trips, with occasional international assignments.
What You’ll Need
- Background in long-form production, current affairs, or documentary work.
- Practical experience with multi-channel recording and use of boom and lapel microphones.
- Ability to adjust quickly and contribute positively in complex shoot environments.
- Understanding of production workflows, including multi-camera shoots and post-production.
- Interest in emerging technology and a collaborative approach to storytelling.
- Good operational discipline when handling audio equipment and on-location data tasks.
