Job description
Role overview
Corlann – West Region is recruiting a Social Care Worker for Beo Adult Services in the Knocknacarra area of County Galway. The service works with children and adults with intellectual disabilities through a community-based, person-centred approach that prioritises each person’s abilities, independence and right to a meaningful life in their community.
The organisation’s aim is to help people supported by the service enjoy ordinary life experiences, maintain close relationships with family and friends, and live according to their own choices. Beo Adult Services offers day, residential, respite, community outreach, family support and multidisciplinary supports across settings such as day centres, supported employment, social and micro-enterprises, training, education, individualised support and community-based homes.
Staff are expected to be creative, motivated, adaptable and comfortable working flexibly to meet individual needs. The position may involve work in residential, respite, day or community-based services, and the initial assignment may change later depending on service requirements.
Main purpose of the role
The Social Care Worker acts as a key support and advocacy figure for adults using the service. The role centres on promoting independence, building skills, supporting person-centred planning and helping each person make informed decisions. The post holder will also encourage community participation, support inclusive thinking, identify opportunities for new experiences and help people take positive, informed risks.
Reporting line
This position reports to the Team Leader or Team Manager.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants must have a relevant third-level qualification in the social care field, such as a Social Care qualification registered with CORU, or be in the process of registering with CORU.
A full, clean manual driving licence is essential. The licence must permit the holder to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads. A Class D1 licence may also be required, if not already held, and support will be provided to help obtain it.
Previous experience working with people with intellectual disabilities, autism or complex needs is desirable, although induction and training will be provided. Strong spoken and written English, together with solid IT skills, are also required.
Skills and personal attributes
Candidates should show leadership and networking ability, as the role involves building links with local community groups and creating positive connections for service users.
Strong planning and organisational skills are needed, along with the ability to support goal setting and follow through on agreed outcomes.
The ideal candidate will bring creativity, initiative, self-motivation, flexibility and sound judgement.
A commitment to current international best practice, collaborative working within an interdisciplinary team and a person-centred philosophy is essential.
Excellent listening skills, patience and a good sense of humour are also important for success in this role.
Working pattern
The post is based on a 14-day duty roster and totals 78 hours per fortnight. Depending on service needs, the successful candidate may need to work across an integrated day service, including weekends, split shifts, public holidays, evening or night duty, and sleep-ins.
Corlann’s service model is built around Personal Outcome Measures and person-centred planning, so flexibility in working hours is expected in order to deliver quality support for each person.
Leave and additional pay
Annual leave is 22 days per year, prorated for part-time staff, which equates to 8.46 hours per 100 hours worked. Further service-related leave may be granted after 5 years and 10 years of service respectively.
Extra payments apply for work carried out on weekends, public holidays and during night duty.
Pay and tenure
The salary follows the Department of Health Social Care Worker scale effective from 01/06/2026, ranging from €41,260 to €56,717 per annum, prorated for part-time hours. A long-service increment of €57,789 per annum, also prorated, is payable after 3 years at the top of the scale.
The quoted salary is based on a 39-hour working week, and incremental credit may be awarded subject to verification of relevant previous public sector service.
This is a permanent, full-time, pensionable post. A panel may also be created from this recruitment process to fill future permanent, temporary or fixed-term Social Care Worker roles within Beo Services over the next 6 to 12 months.
Probation
The role carries a probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment. Employment may end during probation if the employer considers the appointee unsuitable, and the probationary period may be extended at the employer’s discretion.
Additional information
Informal enquiries about the post may be directed to Bridget Carroll, Service Co-ordinator, or Sinéad O’Kane, Area Manager, on 091-721477.
The closing date for completed online applications and CVs is 5:00 pm on Thursday 25 June 2026. Interviews are expected to take place in July 2026.
Corlann is an equal opportunities employer.
