Role overview
As a Shift Supervisor at Starbucks, you will support the store manager in running day-to-day operations during assigned shifts. In a team lead capacity, you will coordinate partners, assign tasks, and help create the Starbucks Experience by delivering exceptional customer service, quick and accurate service, quality beverages and food items, and a clean, welcoming store atmosphere. You will also be expected to act in line with Starbucks’ core principles and help maintain a workplace that is known for being a great place to work.
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and product knowledge in ways that reflect Starbucks’ mission, values, and culture.
- Stay composed during busy periods or unusual situations so the store continues to operate to standard and the shift team has a steady example to follow.
- Stay alert to customer and store conditions and adjust to needs as they arise.
- Share relevant information with the store manager so the team can respond appropriately and maintain the “Third Place” experience during each shift.
- Support onboarding of new partners by encouraging strong performance and offering respectful coaching when needed.
- Provide the store manager with feedback on partner performance during the shift.
- Help foster a positive team atmosphere by noticing morale or performance changes and communicating them to the store manager.
- Build a constructive learning environment through timely, clear, and respectful coaching that supports operational excellence and partner growth.
- Provide legendary service by welcoming customers with a customer-first mindset and building genuine connections.
- Identify customer needs and respond effectively.
- Develop positive working relationships with shift partners by understanding individual motivations, needs, and concerns.
- Run store operations throughout scheduled shifts.
- Coordinate opening and closing tasks as assigned.
- Follow company policies and procedures, including cash handling, safety, and security requirements, to protect partners during each shift.
- Ensure proper cash management practices are followed by the shift team.
- Check in with baristas during the shift to support delivery of excellent customer service.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Prepare beverages, whole bean coffee, and food items consistently in line with recipe and presentation standards.
- Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
- Recognize both individual and team achievements using available tools and by working with the store manager on creative recognition methods.
- Use operational tools to drive strong performance and efficiency throughout the shift.
Experience required
Previous customer service experience in a retail or restaurant setting is required.
