Job description
Role overview
Sunrise Senior Living is seeking a Server, also titled Dining Room Care Manager, for Sunrise of Victoria. In this role, you will help create a warm, safe, and welcoming dining experience for residents while supporting the community’s service standards. The position combines table service, dining room upkeep, resident assistance, and food safety responsibilities, with an emphasis on hospitality, teamwork, and respectful care.
Key responsibilities
You will provide day-to-day dining room support, guide new care managers on service expectations, and keep up-to-date with menu items so you can explain options and help residents choose meals. The role includes taking food and beverage orders, delivering requested items, attending pre-meal briefings, and responding to resident needs in line with Sunrise’s hospitality standards.
You will also oversee dining room presentation and readiness by completing checklist inspections, resetting tables, maintaining side work, keeping assigned areas clean, and supporting proper decorum and etiquette. Additional duties include reviewing daily resident information, protecting confidentiality, following dietary notes, and helping maintain tabletop inventory.
Food safety, sanitation, and compliance
This position requires strict adherence to safe food-handling practices and all applicable federal, provincial/state, and local food service regulations. You will be expected to complete recurring cleaning tasks, keep work areas sanitary and safe, and support proper organization and supply placement in the dining area. The role also includes following occupational health and safety rules, using PPE correctly, and observing fire safety, SDS, and lockout/tagout procedures where required.
Teamwork and training
As part of the Sunrise team, you are expected to contribute to shared goals, participate in meetings and engagement activities, and consistently reflect the team member credo and principles of service. Ongoing required training must be completed and maintained, and you may be assigned additional duties as needed. If you drive a Sunrise vehicle, you must also complete the relevant driver documentation and safety expectations.
Qualifications
The role requires a high school diploma or GED. Previous experience of at least one year is preferred in fine-dining hospitality or full-service senior living. You must obtain Food Safety Certification within 90 days of starting the role and maintain CPR, First Aid, and ServeSafe certifications, along with any ongoing re-training required by Sunrise or provincial/state authorities.
Benefits and compensation
Sunrise offers a benefits package that may include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage; retirement savings plans; an employee assistance and discount program; paid time off, sick time, and holiday pay; myFlexPay for faster access to earned pay; and tuition reimbursement. Depending on the position and program terms, discretionary and/or non-discretionary bonuses may also be available. Benefit eligibility requirements may apply.
Additional information
Compensation will be set competitively based on the community or office location, your skills, experience, qualifications, and any applicable certifications or licenses. Sunrise Senior Living also provides accommodation for applicants with disabilities during the recruitment process upon request.
