Job description

Company overview

Sydney Music Lessons is a new music education business based in Sydney. The school helps students across the city connect with the right instructor, whether they are looking for piano lessons in Strathfield, guitar classes in the Inner West, or vocal coaching in the Eastern Suburbs.

The business teaches more than 25 instruments and supports a wide range of learners, from complete beginners taking their first lesson to advanced students preparing for AMEB and HSC exams.

Role summary

This opportunity is for a Sydney-based SEO content marketing intern who can support the growth of the company’s organic search presence. The role is intended for candidates located in Sydney, Australia. You will learn how to use AI tools such as Claude as part of a professional writing workflow and create genuinely helpful, high-quality SEO content while avoiding repetitive or duplicated material.

You will work alongside the founder on blog creation and contribute to key SEO decisions, including keyword planning, content development, internal linking, backlink-building efforts, and on-page optimisation. The site is growing actively and is being indexed each week.

You will also receive one-on-one mentorship from a digital marketing professional across the full SEO stack, not only content writing. Depending on your interests, the guidance may also extend into areas such as Google Ads, performance marketing, personal branding on LinkedIn, social media, and the differences between agency and in-house or boutique and large-company environments.

Work arrangement

The position is hybrid. Most of the work can be done remotely, although some in-person attendance may be needed for mentorship meetings and content-writing guidance.

Who this role suits

This internship is a strong match for someone who wants to learn SEO from the ground up or already has some experience writing SEO-focused content. It is also suitable for candidates who want broader exposure to digital marketing, including performance marketing, websites, conversion rate optimisation, and tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

A basic understanding of how search works is useful, as is some familiarity with music. You should be able to write clearly, review and improve your own work, and pay close attention to detail, since small improvements compound in SEO over time. Interest in music education, or the curiosity to build that understanding, will help you succeed in the role.

Students currently studying marketing, communications, business, psychology, or a related subject are welcome. Self-taught applicants who can show that they are already learning SEO independently are also encouraged to apply. The company values thinking ability and approach more than formal credentials.

Working style and values

The team is looking for someone who is easy to work with, comfortable moving at a fast pace without bringing unnecessary stress, and eager to keep learning. The ideal person enjoys situations where they are still figuring things out rather than simply repeating what they already know.

Strong applicants will care about doing work thoroughly, build long-term relationships naturally, communicate honestly, and take a genuine approach rather than a transactional one. They should be proactive, willing to raise ideas or issues without waiting to be asked, and open to experimenting with new approaches when something could be improved.

The role also calls for someone who can receive direct feedback without taking it personally and can offer feedback professionally when needed.

Engagement details

  • Initial commitment is 3 months, with the possibility of moving into a longer-term paid role for standout candidates.
  • The expected workload is 2 to 5 days per week, depending on your availability.
  • The internship is unpaid and is positioned as a mentorship- and learning-focused opportunity.
  • The start date is flexible.

Additional information

Applicants must be based in Sydney, Australia. The company is transparent that the placement is unpaid at the outset so candidates can judge whether the exchange of experience and mentorship aligns with their goals.
