Job description

Role overview

Join a global team working on precision positioning and machine control technology that supports heavy equipment autonomy. In this position, you’ll help improve product quality, resolve technically complex customer issues, and influence future product requirements for construction and mining applications.

The role sits within Trimble Field Systems, a business focused on improving precision and productivity in construction by helping teams capture accurate data and manage site conditions using advanced technology.

About the division

Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies is a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar that creates positioning, control, and automation solutions for earthmoving and paving equipment. Its technologies include GNSS, optical total stations, lasers, and sonic systems used to provide operators with accurate horizontal and vertical guidance.

What you will do

  • Resolve urgent technical issues and manage product quality concerns for machine control and guidance products used worldwide.
  • Facilitate international working groups and project discussions to address difficult technical problems.
  • Improve internal workflows and remove inefficiencies that affect customer experience.
  • Work with internal project teams early in development to define support needs and help shape new product designs.
  • Create and share support documentation, and maintain global tracking databases and records.

Experience and technical background

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in machine control and guidance systems, along with strong troubleshooting skills across CAN/J1939, Ethernet, and wireless communication technologies. You should be comfortable working independently, leading others through complex technical situations, and communicating clearly across teams.

A technology-related two-year degree or higher is required.

Preferred background

Additional value will come from practical experience with GPS, machine control, and guidance system design or validation, plus a solid mechanical and electrical understanding. Experience in bench testing and machine testing environments is also advantageous.

Work location and travel

This position may be based in Christchurch, New Zealand, or Dayton, Ohio. The role includes around 20% international travel.

Compensation and benefits

The hiring range for this salaried role is USD 85,900 to USD 118,100 annually. The position is bonus eligible, but not commission eligible. Trimble also offers a benefits package that may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, paid time off, retirement plans, tax-advantaged savings options for health, dependent care, and commuting, plus paid parental leave and an employee stock purchase plan.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis until the role is filled. Trimble is an equal opportunity employer and supports a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. Reasonable accommodations may be available for candidates and employees with disabilities or sincerely held religious beliefs, in line with applicable law and where doing so does not create undue hardship.
