Job description
Overview
Business Needs Inc. is looking for a Senior Scrum Master to support delivery on a complex enterprise initiative centered on data, reporting, analytics, downstream application usage, and future business interpretation. The scope may involve performance measurement, sales-oriented data, organizational activity, enterprise workflows, and outcomes tied to achievement.
This role is based onsite in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is open to C2C, W2, and 1099 engagement types.
What You’ll Do
- Drive Agile execution using Scrum, Kanban, or a blended Agile approach.
- Run core team ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Help teams define priorities, delivery scope, goals, risks, dependencies, and expectations.
- Work closely with product owners, business analysts, architects, developers, QA partners, data teams, and other stakeholders.
- Clear blockers, manage dependencies across teams, and shield the team from avoidable interruptions.
- Improve backlog quality by helping turn business needs into well-formed user stories, acceptance criteria, and delivery outcomes.
- Coordinate efforts tied to enterprise data, reporting, analytics, downstream systems, and related application capabilities.
- Encourage visibility, continuous improvement, Agile maturity, delivery quality, and accountability.
- Spot delivery risks early and help lead them to practical resolution.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong background in communication, facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder management.
- Proven experience supporting Agile teams through the full delivery lifecycle.
- Comfort working in ambiguous enterprise technology settings.
- Ability to remove impediments, resolve conflict, and improve team performance.
- Solid grasp of Agile principles, Lean Software Development, Scrum, Kanban, and continuous improvement.
- Capability to learn a business domain quickly and align delivery work to business value.
- Experience collaborating with distributed or global teams.
- Ability to coordinate across multiple systems, teams, and stakeholder groups.
Preferred Background
- Exposure to enterprise data, reporting, analytics, workflow, or platform-focused programs.
- Experience with performance measurement, sales-related data, organizational activity, or achievement-based initiatives.
- Familiarity with downstream application use, data interpretation, or enterprise information models.
- Understanding of product management practices in Agile environments.
- Hands-on experience with user stories, Agile estimation, acceptance criteria, and backlog refinement.
- Knowledge of Agile engineering practices including TDD, SOLID principles, CI/CD, INVEST, and quality-first delivery.
- Experience participating in Scrum of Scrums or similar cross-team coordination forums.
- Background in large enterprise environments.
Qualifications
- Scrum Master certification is preferred, such as CSM or PSM I.
- An optional coaching credential such as ICF is a plus.
- Previous experience as a Senior Scrum Master, Agile Delivery Lead, Agile Coach, or in a comparable leadership role is preferred.
Additional Information
This position is for a senior-level Scrum Master focused on enterprise delivery leadership rather than hands-on software engineering. The work may span business, product, technology, and data stakeholders, with an emphasis on maintaining momentum, clarity, and collaboration in complex environments.
