Job description

Role overview

Octavius Finance is working with a highly respected asset manager to hire a Senior Research Analyst for its expanding European Manager Research team. The position bridges fundamental and quantitative investing, with the main focus on fixed income manager research. The chosen candidate will help with manager selection, investment due diligence, portfolio construction, and continuous strategy oversight, supporting a strong conviction buy list across rates and credit strategies in a multi-manager investment platform.

Working alongside portfolio managers and investment research professionals, this person will help identify, assess, and monitor leading fixed income managers while contributing to a disciplined investment process and better client outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the assessment, screening, and due diligence of fixed income managers for possible inclusion on the approved buy list.
  • Track existing managers and strategies on an ongoing basis, and recommend whether they should be retained, removed, or expanded in line with governance procedures.
  • Work with portfolio managers to review current allocations and examine potential investment opportunities.
  • Help monitor corporate and financial credit exposures across active and target-maturity fixed income portfolios.
  • Take part in primary market activity, including analysis of new bond issuance, pricing review, and evaluation of market opportunities.
  • Support credit research across investment grade, high yield, and subordinated debt markets using both fundamental and technical methods.
  • Develop and assess fixed income investment ideas, relative value opportunities, and research projects using quantitative and data-led approaches where relevant.
  • Analyse structured fixed income exposure, including derivatives such as IRS, TRS, and options used for portfolio construction and risk control.
  • Apply a quantamental approach that combines quantitative insights with fundamental analysis to inform investment decisions.
  • Maintain and improve manager research databases, investment frameworks, and fund selection processes.
  • Collaborate with broader investment teams on portfolio construction, asset allocation, and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate with compliance, legal, and product teams to ensure internal governance and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Contribute to wider investment research work and strategic projects as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in fixed income investing, manager research, fund selection, or a closely related investment role.
  • A degree in a relevant subject; CFA Charterholder status is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fixed income markets, including rates, investment grade credit, high yield, and subordinated debt.
  • Well-developed analytical and quantitative ability, together with a solid understanding of portfolio construction and investment risk.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage several priorities in a busy environment.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and other core investment analysis tools.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships across investment and business teams.
  • Experience using quantitative methods, data analysis, or systematic approaches within fixed income investing would be an advantage.
