Job description

Role overview

SearchWorks is hiring a Senior QA Engineer for a 12-month contract in Greater Dublin. This position sits inside a cross-functional team and focuses on setting the standard for quality across the product lifecycle. You’ll work as a practical, hands-on engineer who writes automation, shapes testing strategy, contributes to requirements discussions, and helps ensure systems perform correctly in a modern event-driven environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Take ownership of quality from the earliest stages by reviewing and improving acceptance criteria before development starts.
  • Create and maintain automated tests that are built into CI/CD delivery flows.
  • Partner closely with the product owner to understand the domain well enough to spot likely failure points ahead of time.
  • Develop parity testing between legacy and modern platforms to confirm migration and transformation accuracy.
  • Keep automated test suites efficient, targeted, and high value, prioritising confidence over sheer test volume.
  • Support quality reporting and metrics, bringing risks to light as early as possible.
  • Work with engineers to strengthen test coverage through collaboration, feedback, and review.

Required experience and skills

  • Background as a QA Engineer, Test Engineer, or SDET working in agile teams.
  • Practical ability to write test automation code rather than only execute test cases.
  • Experience testing microservices or event-driven systems.
  • Working knowledge of Kafka or comparable streaming technologies.
  • Good understanding of CI/CD and how automated tests fit into delivery pipelines.
  • Strong analytical capability with data models, APIs, and event schemas.
  • Ability to use SQL for validation and reconciliation of data.
  • Comfort working in containerised environments such as Docker.
  • Familiarity with modern testing tools such as Testcontainers, JUnit, and REST Assured, or equivalent tools.

Preferred background

  • Experience in financial services or payments.
  • Exposure to platform migration projects or validation of legacy systems.
  • Some involvement in performance or load testing.
