Job description

Role Overview

Asana is hiring a Senior Product Designer to influence the next generation of onboarding and adoption experiences in an AI-driven product environment. The focus of this position is to create smart, adaptable journeys that help new users understand the product’s value quickly through AI-enabled workflows, guidance, and personalization.

You will work across product design, AI interaction design, and fast-paced product discovery. The role involves close collaboration with product managers, engineers, researchers, and data scientists to build prototypes, validate ideas, and improve concepts quickly. This is a strong fit for a designer who is comfortable with uncertainty, curious about new AI capabilities, and eager to develop ideas collaboratively through hands-on creation.

The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic settings, enjoys using prototypes as a tool for communication and exploration, values experimentation and continuous learning, and works well in a deeply collaborative environment where ideas evolve across multiple disciplines.

Location and Work Model

This position is based in San Francisco, CA and follows an office-centric hybrid schedule. Standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most employees may work from home on Wednesdays. Work-from-home flexibility on Fridays depends on the nature of the role and the teams involved. The recruiter will provide more detail during the interview process.

About the Design Team

Asana’s design team helps build the future of teamwork. The company’s mission is to help humanity thrive by making it easier for teams around the world to collaborate effectively, and design plays a central role in that mission.

The Design organization is inclusive and highly collaborative, bringing together talent from product design, brand and content design, design operations, production, motion design, film, and copywriting. The team combines research, data, and peer feedback in a human-centered design process to create experiences that are core to Asana’s products. Designers partner across the company to shape the product, influence the brand, and increase impact through design while maintaining a playful, creative culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine onboarding and adoption experiences that help people discover Asana’s value quickly, including personalized and AI-powered workflows.
  • Create prototypes for concepts, interactions, and product directions to test ideas, communicate reasoning, and speed up team learning.
  • Work in close partnership with product managers and engineers through iterative development, building and improving ideas together through experimentation.
  • Track new developments in AI and LLM technology and turn emerging interaction patterns into practical product experiences.
  • Apply qualitative feedback, experimentation, and product analytics to guide design choices, improve journeys, and identify growth opportunities.
  • Help evolve the design system and interaction patterns so product experiences stay consistent, scalable, and polished across surfaces.

Candidate Profile

  • At least 5 years of experience in product design, supported by a portfolio showing strong thinking, execution quality, and iteration across onboarding, growth, or AI-related products.
  • Strong curiosity about AI products and interaction design, with ongoing interest in current LLM capabilities, tools, and changing user behavior.
  • Excellent prototyping ability and a hands-on maker approach; prototypes are used frequently to test ideas and support collaboration.
  • Comfort working in a highly collaborative process with product managers and engineers during ideation and refinement.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity, move quickly, and balance short-term optimization with longer-term exploration.
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills, with the ability to produce refined, intuitive, high-quality product experiences throughout the user journey.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual base salary for this role is between $182,000 and $207,000. Final compensation will depend on market conditions and the candidate’s qualifications as assessed during the interview process. The range may also change over time.

In addition to base pay, the overall package may include equity, sales incentive pay for most sales roles, and benefits. Candidates can ask the Talent Acquisition Partner for more details on total compensation.

Asana offers competitive benefits that may include mental health, wellness and fitness support, career coaching, inclusive family-building benefits, long-term savings or retirement plans, and in-office culinary options tailored to dietary preferences.
