Job description
Role overview
Transpower New Zealand is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to help run and improve the application ecosystem that supports the country’s electricity network. In this role, you will strengthen the platforms, automation, and operational tooling that keep critical services stable across both Linux and Windows environments.
You will take a lead role in technical delivery, monitoring, and ongoing improvement of important application services, working across both development and operations functions.
About the organisation
Transpower is a commercially focused, regulated state-owned enterprise that owns and operates New Zealand’s National Grid. It moves electricity from generation sources to major users and distribution businesses that supply homes and workplaces across the country.
The organisation is focused on supporting electrification, lowering emissions, and adapting to growing demand for clean energy, new technologies, more complex power flows, and evolving customer expectations.
About the team
The Application Services team sits within Transpower’s award-winning ICT division and helps ensure electricity services remain available 24/7. The team maintains and evolves complex business-critical systems, and the work spans important systems such as market platforms, SCADA, transmission applications, finance, asset management, HR, customer-facing portals, CRM, B2B integration, and mobile applications.
The team works in alignment with strategy and architecture guidance to deliver solutions that meet enterprise standards and support the planning, maintenance, and real-time operation of the national electricity grid and electricity market.
What you will do
As Senior Platform Engineer, you will lead platform work across design, build, configuration, maintenance, and support activities for solutions delivered through projects and day-to-day operations.
You will apply DevOps practices to improve system setup, automation, and tooling, while helping maintain a stable and highly available platform across Linux and Windows environments.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a customer-focused platform professional with experience in software development, system administration, and/or systems operations in complex environments. Different combinations of relevant experience are welcome.
To be successful, your background should show strong capability in maintaining and improving application platforms and support tools, along with hands-on automation, scripting, and configuration management across build, integration, deployment, monitoring, and support work.
You should also bring solid troubleshooting and analytical skills, be comfortable leading technical problem-solving efforts, and be able to improve platform performance and reliability.
Collaboration matters in this role, so the ability to work well across teams, explain technical ideas clearly, and mentor or share knowledge with others is important.
Technology experience
Useful hands-on experience includes Linux, especially RHEL, and Windows, together with platform and automation tools such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, OMD Labs Naemon, GitLab, GitLab CI, Artifactory, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Grafana, Kafka, and Keycloak.
Why join Transpower
Transpower values different perspectives and lived experience, and is committed to building an inclusive, diverse, and accessible workplace where people can contribute and succeed.
Benefits include a range of health, wellbeing, and lifestyle options, along with reasonable accommodations and flexible working arrangements where possible.
Application notes
Applications close on Tuesday 16 June 2026. Applications may be reviewed as they are received, and shortlisted candidates may be contacted for exploratory conversations or interviews before the closing date.
New Zealand work eligibility is required for this role.
