Job description
About ANZ
At ANZ, the focus is on helping people and communities thrive by improving the financial wellbeing and long-term sustainability of customers. The organisation is building a safer, stronger bank and encourages people to think differently, grow their expertise, and contribute to meaningful change.
About the Role
The Senior Manager, Technology Oversight sits within ANZ’s Second Line Risk function and has a key role in strengthening how technology risk is identified, assessed, governed, and managed across the business. Technology is central to the bank’s strategy, and this position helps ensure it is used safely, responsibly, and effectively.
This role involves working on significant and complex risk issues, using strong judgement, insight, and constructive challenge to drive better outcomes. You will act as a dependable advisor to the business by providing oversight of technology risks, controls, environmental factors, incidents, and indicators, while also helping improve decision-making and embed stronger risk practices.
The position has broad scope and influence, combining review and challenge, reporting, advisory support, and capability-building across Technology.
Role Details
- Permanent, full-time position.
- Location: Auckland or Wellington, New Zealand.
Day-to-Day Focus
- Work closely with senior stakeholders across Technology and Risk to support a proactive and future-focused approach to non-financial risk.
- Provide second-line oversight in line with the Non-Financial Risk Framework to support informed and risk-aware decisions.
- Advise leaders on material technology risks, operational resilience, regulatory obligations, and the practical use of risk policies, tools, and controls.
- Carry out independent reviews, challenge current risk positions, and provide clear views on risk maturity and improvement opportunities.
- Escalate significant risks appropriately and contribute to senior governance forums, including divisional committees and Board-level discussions.
- Model strong risk leadership while coaching, mentoring, and developing capability across teams.
What You Bring
To succeed in this role, you will ideally bring strong experience in risk oversight and a solid understanding of technology risk in a regulated banking environment.
- Deep expertise in risk management, with strength across areas such as operational resilience and information security.
- Hands-on technology risk experience, including the ability to independently review, challenge, and improve outcomes.
- Sound commercial judgement and the ability to balance business priorities with regulatory expectations.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders at senior and executive levels and build trusted working relationships.
- Good knowledge of banking operations, including controls, processes, and regulatory constraints.
- Leadership experience with a people-focused approach to engagement, coaching, and capability development.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills for complex risk conversations.
You do not need to meet every requirement. ANZ values a growth mindset and encourages candidates who bring most of the capabilities above to apply.
