Role overview
This position owns the complete purchasing cycle for the assigned commodity. The role focuses on building strategic supplier partnerships for the part category, working within the Direct Material Cost and capex targets provided by the product line, and driving measurable savings through structured cost-reduction initiatives. It also requires close monitoring of supplier health and coordinated action with engineering, product line, SCM, and advance quality teams to safeguard cost, quality, and delivery performance.
Strategy development and sourcing
- Create Direct Material Cost and capex estimates for upcoming vehicle models.
- Identify vendors with advanced technologies, build business cases, validate supplier capability, and start the empanelment process.
- Review the SOR against technical specifications to narrow down the supplier list.
- Study technical drawings and specifications shared by product development for the relevant commodity.
- Plan and assess supplier capacity expansion efforts so supply remains scalable, uninterrupted, and ready for new model launches and future demand.
- Prepare RFQ packages for vendors and secure TRSO approval from SQ.
- Evaluate quotations received against the RFQ.
- Build part cost estimates in line with TMPV standard costing methods.
- Recommend the most suitable vendors after commercial negotiation.
- Suggest SOB decisions in alignment with the company’s long-term sourcing direction.
- Get internal sourcing-council approval for final vendor selection and release purchase orders.
- Track supplier financial, operational, and industrial-relations health to support long-term continuity.
- Identify vendors that can be developed into long-term partners for TMPV.
- Negotiate supplier terms and conditions with SQ and SCM by assessing the business environment and market situation.
- Develop early vendor involvement for components with long lead times.
- Support localization, alternate technology introduction, and other supply-chain optimization measures through vendor collaboration.
- Compare the existing part with proposed changes and evaluate the commercial impact.
- Release RFQs to the shortlisted supplier set.
- Ensure purchase orders are amended for revised pricing.
Financial management and cost control
- Work with engineering on VAVE-driven cost reduction, design changes, and process improvements, while coordinating with vendors for the best commercial outcome.
- Assess vendors against target cost expectations and initiate re-sourcing with SQ and SCM when cost escalation or quality issues arise.
- Drive savings through commercial reductions, VAVE, resourcing, and SOB mix optimization.
- Track commodity market prices for costing reference.
- Review POGR and CR-CI reports.
- Handle and close audit queries.
Stakeholder and people management
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to improve processes and support performance goals.
- Build strong networks across functions and external partners to secure timely support and meet deadlines.
Candidate profile
The role calls for a B.E. or B.Tech candidate with 5 to 10 years of relevant purchase-process experience. The ideal profile should have hands-on experience in supplier negotiation, should-costing or zero-based costing, and the use of multiple cost-reduction levers. A solid understanding of manufacturing and surface-protection processes is important, along with knowledge of part validation, performance measures, raw materials, commercial implications, TMPV audit guidelines, and purchasing agreements.
Skills and competencies
This role requires strong costing, negotiation, financial, supplier management, and performance management capabilities. Technical knowledge is needed across component specifications, production tools and equipment, material behavior, surface finish, precision and tolerance control, pricing and commercial negotiations, plastics and tooling, sheet metal fabrication, and rubber processing methods.
