Job description

About the Company

Masdar, founded in 2006, is a worldwide leader in clean energy, known for shaping the future of energy production and consumption through innovation and strong commercial execution. The company develops, invests in, and runs renewable energy projects across multiple technologies and markets, and its portfolio has already surpassed 65 GW. Jointly owned by TAQA, ADNOC, and Mubadala, Masdar is working toward expanding its portfolio to 100 GW by 2030.

Role Overview

This position is focused on building and scaling a modern IT operations function that is product-led, tightly governed, and designed to work across cloud, infrastructure, digital workplace, service management, and enterprise platforms. The role retains full internal ownership of service outcomes, platform governance, and transformation delivery while operating with a lean in-house team and a heavily outsourced, multi-vendor model.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership across cloud platforms and FinOps, infrastructure, network and digital workplace, IT service delivery and automation, and the ServiceNow workflow platform.
  • Run these areas as connected products rather than isolated support towers, with clear accountability for service quality and user experience from start to finish.
  • Convert enterprise strategy into aligned operational delivery across all domains.
  • Set up and lead a weekly IT Operations Governance Forum with all domain leaders to review SLA results, raise cross-domain issues, align roadmap dependencies, and communicate priorities.
  • Own the IT Operations Service Catalogue, ensuring it remains a published and version-controlled record of services, service owners, SLAs, costs, and dependencies, with quarterly review cycles.
  • Embed a platform-as-a-product operating approach, including governance for roadmaps, prioritisation, backlog handling, release cadence, and value tracking.
  • Bring cloud, infrastructure, ServiceNow, and workplace platforms together into one integrated operating environment.
  • Drive a standardisation-led model with limited customisation and disciplined control of technical debt.
  • Create and manage a Platform Governance Framework covering request assessment, approval of new platform demand, tracking of customisation exceptions, retirement of platforms, and review of vendor changes before production release.
  • Lead a global network of managed service providers and system integrators, moving delivery accountability from effort-based to outcome-based outcomes.
  • Set and enforce SLA and KPI measures tied to business results, as well as architecture and governance compliance.
  • Improve vendor performance through executive-level governance and performance reviews, with measurable gains in cost efficiency, service quality, and delivery consistency.
  • Own global IT operations results across availability, resilience, continuity, service quality, and cloud/operational cost efficiency.
  • Build integrated leadership dashboards using ServiceNow data, infrastructure and network health indicators, and cloud consumption/FinOps metrics.
  • Lead an automation-first operations agenda spanning ServiceNow workflows, virtual agents, service desk automation, self-service, and infrastructure automation such as IaC and policy-based provisioning.
  • Control the end-to-end three-year IT operations transformation roadmap covering stabilise and standardise, optimise and automate, and AI-enable and transform.
  • Manage cross-domain dependencies and delivery risks, acting as the central execution owner for IT operations initiatives.
  • Ensure platforms can support industrial and OT-connected environments, including secure IT/OT data exchange and scalable infrastructure for industrial IoT and smart assets.
  • Embed Zero Trust principles along with OT security and segmentation requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT, Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Relevant certifications include ITIL v4 (Managing Professional or Strategic Leader), Azure Solutions Architect or an equivalent cloud credential, TOGAF or exposure to enterprise architecture, and FinOps certification as an advantage.

The role calls for 12–15+ years of experience in IT operations, infrastructure, or platform leadership, with responsibility for multi-domain environments covering cloud, infrastructure, and service management. Strong exposure to large-scale infrastructure transformation and highly outsourced or SIAM operating models is expected. Experience in energy, utilities, industrial sectors, or other high-performance environments such as financial services or private-equity-backed businesses will be valued.

Job-Specific Skills

The successful applicant should bring a strong command of Azure or similar cloud environments, infrastructure and network design, M365-based digital workplace services, and ServiceNow or comparable enterprise workflow tools. Familiarity with ITIL v4 service management, FinOps and cost optimisation, automation, AIOps, and AI-supported operations is important, along with working knowledge of IT/OT convergence. The role also requires a systems-thinking mindset, strong vendor governance skills, a product-oriented and data-led approach, and the ability to lead lean internal teams while leveraging external partners effectively.

Location

This position is based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
