- Drive earned-media outreach and help secure coverage in national, regional, trade, and online publications.
- Develop and nurture journalist relationships, manage incoming media requests, and prepare spokespeople with clear talking points and briefing support.
- Produce polished communications assets such as press releases, opinion pieces, reports, newsletters, blog posts, and briefing materials.
- Shape content direction and storytelling that highlights program results, policy wins, and research findings.
- Partner on digital communications, including website updates, social media activity, and email campaigns.
- Coordinate stakeholder engagement efforts such as events, briefings, webinars, and roundtables.
- Monitor communications results and refine approach based on reach, engagement, and overall effectiveness.
Experience and qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Marketing, or a closely related discipline is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 7 to 10+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or a similar field, preferably in nonprofit, policy, or clean transportation environments.
- Demonstrated success supporting or promoting policy efforts at the federal, state, or local level.
- Excellent writing, editing, and narrative-building skills, supported by a strong portfolio of communications work.
- Solid media relations background, including experience earning coverage and handling press interactions.
- Proven ability to simplify technical, scientific, or policy-heavy information for broad and varied audiences.
- Comfort working in fast-paced, mission-oriented settings with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Strong teamwork and influencing abilities across functions and levels.
- Experience managing communications initiatives across digital, social, and traditional media.
- Analytical mindset with experience measuring communication performance and audience engagement.

- Annual salary range of $95,000 to $113,000.
- Employer covers 100% of medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance costs.
- Retirement savings plan with generous employer contributions.
- Health and dependent-care flexible spending accounts.
- Three weeks of vacation during the first year, along with paid sick leave and 11 company holidays.
- Paid family leave and additional supportive leave policies.
- Inclusive, mission-driven workplace centered on equity and impact.
- Strong focus on learning, professional growth, and career development.
- Collaborative culture that values innovation, teamwork, and purpose-driven work.
