About the Role

John Sisk & Son is a family-run construction business with an international footprint, focused on delivering dependable, high-value projects while continuing to innovate and influence the future of the industry. In this Senior Engineer position, you will take ownership of the engineering function for your project, serve as the most senior engineering contact on site, and work in close partnership with the Line Manager.

Your remit will include setting the engineering control strategy, ensuring accurate setting-out, leading Engineers and Assistant Engineers, and acting as the key point of reference for quality assurance, documentation, and production. You will also oversee Temporary Works coordination and may be asked to manage lifting operations where needed.

Engineering Leadership and Control

  • Apply strong dimensional control capability, including translating global grid references into local grid systems.
  • Ensure site and graduate engineers properly maintain, use, and safeguard survey equipment.
  • Check and validate as-built surveys, with a clear understanding of tolerance limits and interface needs across different works.
  • Keep a daily engineering log that records important activities and site progress.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Use quality control practices across major work packages and prepare or assess Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Bring solid technical understanding of core infrastructure work such as concrete, drainage, steelwork, and brickwork.
  • Interpret project specifications accurately, especially structural tolerance requirements.
  • Lead the non-conformance process, including raising issues, closing them out, and recognising the cost implications of defects and rework.
  • Issue and control Permits to Break Ground.
  • Review and develop method statements and risk assessments.
  • Spot missing information early and manage the RFI process efficiently.

Technical and Safety Responsibilities

  • Understand the hazards linked to underground services and make sure the correct controls are always in place.
  • Assist with Temporary Works control and coordination in line with company procedures.
  • Handle or support lifting operations when required.
  • Bring broad technical exposure across infrastructure areas including piling, geotechnical works, substructures, and waterproofing.
  • Use Microsoft Office and digital project systems confidently, including platforms such as A-Site and Viewpoint for Projects.
  • Contribute strong design management experience to the project.
  • Communicate clearly in both written and spoken form.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering.
  • Substantial experience in design management processes.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge across relevant infrastructure disciplines.
  • Strong awareness of underground service risks and the controls needed to manage them safely.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office and common digital information tools.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay.
  • 26 days of annual leave, plus extra company holidays.
  • Pension and wider benefits package.
  • Access to unlimited learning and development opportunities.
  • Additional employee benefits.
