Job description

Role summary

This position is for a Senior Engineer Safety within the Asset Operations function at site level. The role sits in the Safety value stream and reports into Lead Safety. It is focused on putting safety policies into practice at the site, identifying potential hazards, and addressing or escalating risks in line with company standards, regulations, and established safety procedures.

Purpose of the role

The main objective of this role is to ensure that all safety-related policies are executed effectively at the site. The person in this position is expected to spot, resolve, reduce, or escalate key risks while staying aligned with internal safety policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the rollout and day-to-day use of safety policies, procedures, and SOPs, and help line managers interpret and apply them correctly.
  • Assist with the execution of new site initiatives and projects in line with approved safety policies and future site needs.
  • Work with Lead Safety on first-party and third-party health and safety audits for the assigned plant or area.
  • Stay connected with industry bodies, trade groups, and global forums to learn and share current best practices and emerging safety trends.
  • Carry out safety observations in the assigned area or plant, review the findings, and recommend behavior-based corrective actions.
  • Maintain log books, occurrence records, and other shift-related documents to support safety compliance.
  • Investigate safety incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and define action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute to risk management activities such as identifying control measures and supporting incident investigations.
  • Prepare MIS updates, safety reports, findings, and performance indicators for plant or area management to improve safety awareness.
  • Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and drive improvement initiatives where needed.
  • Develop training content and conduct safety awareness sessions for safety executives and site employees.
  • Review and analyze near-miss cases and recommend improvement actions to line management.
  • Coordinate and support effective plant-level safety committee meetings.

Education and experience

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science is required, preferably in Mechanical, Chemical, Instrumentation, or Chemistry. The role calls for 3 to 7 years of experience in process industry site operations or maintenance, including 2 to 3 years handling HSE responsibilities.
